View Full Version : Normal map hell

This is my prob...
I'm sure i'm hooking up the normal map correctly, and in the viewport in HQ the normal map looks great, but look at the render.

It's correct EXCEPT for the way it completely washes the colour out, as if the is very high ambience.

This is the normal cube without the normal map connected.

So does anybody know how i can resolve this issue. I've tried using mental ray, it does the same thing. And if i connect the normal map through the bump map checker and change the type to Tangent Spce Normal, it looks like a bad bump map.

these are some more iamges i've rendered just testing to see what the problem is...and it looks like it's just the blinn material that messes up the specular

Below is the original HiRes plane with a bit of sculpting done, with the default lambert1 material...no light

This is a phong material, and it's working fine. Shadows and specular is there.

Below is the same LowRes plain just with a default Blinn material...

See how it destroys the specular.
Now, after trying to tweak the specular...

So, it's just the blinn material that doesn't seem to be working. So if anyone has any ideas, please help...
