Hey isaias...

you have another strong piece in the making I see
keep rambling the way you say you are.. it's my favourite kind of rambling :D

ha-dou-ken

Wow, Glenn. Peace or Perish really speaks to me. It is definitely in the same pitch as my intention for this present piece I have. Thanks for showing it to me. I think I will make a more meditative piece next:D. I'm having some trouble furthening this piece. I will dwell on your words as always and see what I can come with after I reflect. Thanks again.

Johan, haha. Sometimes I use my sketchbook as a makeshift diary or something heh. Woops. But to me, they are one and the same. thanks buddy, I'll see where I can take this. It's my first real attempt at a concept art piece so I'm a little slow.:)

I worked on the head a little more. I think proportions are a lot more realistic now.

Hi...Isaias...:)

Glad you liked that PEACE OR PERISH painting...thought you might...:)
On your 3D bust...you might consider showing an indication of the muscle that runs on a diaginal from where it conects just behind the ear to the underside of the skull, and extends downward to the collarbone...it's a defining, and devideing landmark, that seperates the front from the back set of muscle groups of the neck, and is the main muscle that allows the head to turn fron side to side...the way your 3d piece is now, it looks a little flat in that area behind and just below the ear....kind of like a layered cake...needs that diaginal muscle, to hold the layers together like a bungy cord, and to keep them from slideing off of each other..:scream: ....JUST A PASSING THOUGHT AND SUGGESTION.:)
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK..Isaias...
TAKE CARE

The eyes and eyeballs need to be wider width wise, at least a little under the width of the nose at the bottom. Also the forehead is protruding to far over the eyes.

Beautiful! I like the texture work on the guys' clothes. Looks pretty messy but in the same time clear, good work. Is that speedpaint imaginational?
Mm, I think I wear the same kind of shoes you girlfriend does, hehe :D They rock! Speaking about the speedies themselves, I don't like the white background. Anything would look better than that white! No need to go crazy with it. Something like THIS (http://www.goodbrush.com/cpg146/albums/sketches/capn_fred_overpaint.jpg) or THIS (http://www.goodbrush.com/cpg146/albums/sketches/alice.jpg). You can make a nice background in 5 minutes and it will really make the speedpaint look much better :)

heeey, you're right! I need a background Razz. That looks quick and easy too. Thanks for the tip bro. the speedpaint is with reference. I want to get into concept art more, I just need to think hard about it it seems...hmm.

I thought this was a photos at first! How are you getting such smooth blending and definition in forms in only 2.5 hours? What technique are you using to paint?

ha-dou-ken
04-30-2007, 08:45 AM
Hey Nathan lol. I copied the layer and added a guassian blur to it with composite mode set to screen. This is probably making is ultra smooth.

Here's the original at 100%. I won't post it here because it's huge heh.

http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/2262/longiq3.jpg

I used Zhu's brush to block out the light and form then went over it again with a regular round brush set to maybe 0-20% hardness. Opacity and flow set to under 40%...

thank's for the look man.

That war prisoner image is very impressive.

Me and my girlfriend are in a bit of a strange mood lately. We don't watch the news anymore because every time we do we regret having watched it. Sometimes the world makes us sick, in all it's disgust...
Today it's exactly one year ago when an 18 year old guy went to a gun store, bought a shotgun. Started walking around Antwerp and shot down a 2 year old child along with her babysitter on the street. Just like that.

Tomorrow an 18 year old girl will be burried. Kidnapped and murdered last week. Why? who knows.

During the past year, a 17y old boy was murdered for his mp3 player, another 18y old boy was killed because he didn't want to give the killer a cigarette...

I'm scared! How can I ensure my children's safety in a world like this??
So much useless violence...

Anyway, sorry to rant... was triggered by seeing that painting
Sometimes it's hard to always be hopeful and see that there are many beautiful things in the world...

ha-dou-ken
05-11-2007, 07:39 PM
I know what you mean Johan. I stopped watching TV altogether. I couldn't watch the News, especially when I didn't believe half of it. Also because the media in general is too violen in my opinion. Everything from cartoons to family programming is so much more violent and sexual than I remember it as a kid. I'm only 24! I don't consider myself conservative at all, I'm pretty impulsive actually, but even for me PG-13 is nowhere near appropriate for a 13 year old.

You can always rant on here heh. I like to hear opinions bro. That's why there's art.:)

I was watching Ben Kingsley in cinematic portrayal of Gandhi and I've begun reading his Autobiography as a result. It really helps me. Glenn actually nudged me more into the life of Gandhi. I knew about him, but I never took it upon myself to really learn about him until I read his article on Wikipedia last month. There's this one excerpt of his speech in the U.K. that you can DL for free and I like to listen to it on loop whenever I feel hopeless or just to start the morning off even.

Maybe it can buff your outlook again bro.:)

HEY...Isaias...
I like that image of the guy with his hands in front of his face..STRONG IMAGE...Drawn into his thoughts like a magnet,..making me think my own thoughts as to what he is thinking...a great way to get the viewers to use thier own imagination while viewing an image...
The bottom one is a nice concept also...who is controlling and dangling the time piece, and why...?
That one reminds me of a painting that BOSH, or BRUGIAL I think made.
It had a lot of people wandering on and over the PATH OF LIFE,....THEY WERE ALL WIGHTED DOWN, and STOOPED OVER, LIKE BEAST OF BURDEN, with time pieces / hour glasses I think, TIED TO THIER BACKS...It was a really strong image that always stuck in the back of my mind....Time,..the ultimite parasite, and illussion.
A second that seems like an eternity, and an eternity that seems like a second....it's all in the mind and eye of the BEHOLDER OF TIME...:)
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK..Isaias
Really looking forward to seeing more of these thought provoking images that seem to spring effortlessly from that imagination of yours.

Hey Isaias, very menacing zbrush guy! I have a couple of suggestions on the explosion image. You have a hint of some of the dark cloud of the explosion outside and next to the bright fiery center. I would suggest make some orange fire inside the dark cloud as it moves away from center. Also the very bright white light of the cloud seems too bright. Maybe fade some of the oranges and reds you have there into some of the bright area. Dramatic image!

Hey ha-dou-ken,

I really like your one painting in #307. (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=4384754&postcount=307) The time spent really paid off. Great job.

The explosion painting is definately headed toward grandiose. The main thing that I see holding it back is the back part of his coat. Its triangular shape leaves it with a static feel. Try giving it more dynamic/exaggerated curves. Also the back of the coat should be blowing more toward the right edge of the painting, apposed to toward the viewer.

I am still learning facial anatomy myself so I can't crit a whole lot on the scientist. It does look a lot cleaner than your other head. His jaw, around his joint, looks like it should be dropped a bit.

Some really good stuff! Can't wait to see more!

So, it's Louisiana in the background? Looks very nice with all those light at night.
Oh, converse sneakers rock!
Never tried getting you girl into drawing/painting? You know, being in a couple makes the two more like each other. Though one painter once told that one should be careful when marrying a painter, but the only thing that is more worse than that is marrying a non painter :D

HEY...Isaias...

GREAT photos of your girlfriend...I like the composition/lighting/perspective..:applause:
It would be great to see them turned into matt paintings...maybe something in that light above her knee, or in the grass in the forground, or that big area of sky...something from your imagination, that takes them to a more pesonal level...just for fun type of thing..:)
I did a bunch of matt paintings of MRS SPIRIT DREAMER walking on the beach awhile back,..made the beach disappear, turned it into a water fall, and had her walking across a rainbow in front of the waterfall, painted some butterfly wings on her, put the updraft from the waterfall blowing her hair upwards ect....great fun just letting the imagination do it's own thing, and create it's own world around what is...making what could be instead...
By the time I got done , the only thing left of the photo of her walking on the beach, was her face...the rest was all imagination at play.:bounce:
You can learn a whole lot by doing that kind of experiment, plus it is alot of fun...:)
LOVE TRUMPS EVERYTHING...INCLUDING ART...

Hi Isaias, Really nice images both of them. The first one of the man is very moody. I can feel he is very stressed out. Well done but maybe some blending mid-forehead where the lines seem to stand out a little. Is the second the portrait you are doing for your girlfriend? It is lovely. Since it is still in the early stages I wouldn't know what to critique..it looks as if you know what you are doing. :) Keep going!

Hey mate
You've done it again... you are really REALLY good at capturing that special thing a human expression can communicate towards the viewer, letting your subjects tell their story with their expression... it's what I love most about art in general

When I first started this thread my intention was to learn lighting and form through painting which in turn could hopefully improve my understanding of sculpting and modeling in 3D.

I've started a a sculpt in mudbox and could use a few pointers.I think I've improved but I could still use all the help I can get.

Please disregard the head and hands and feet and...

Here's what I have so far after about 6hrs.I'll take as long as it takes to look good.I'm pretty stubborn :D

Thanks Chris :).

The hands and wrists and head and basically ALL extremities are horrible at this point.Bleh, yucky. I've started from the torso and am working my way out. I want to go back in max and fix the gesture a bit(especially the hands) but I'm not exactly sure how to do that while preserving all my mudbox detail....I'll have to read a bit about it.

Here's another update WIP02.I restarted because I wasn't happy with the first one.

Hi Johan.

I've been really busy this last year. I've been promoted a few times at my job and moved to sunny Florida. I live right by the beach!it's cool. Although I miss New Orleans a bit. I've been carrying a heavy heart so I didn't paint as much as I should have. I was working on my demo reel mostly.

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=45019425

that's something i did for it.

Now I want to get back into painting though. I was looking through my thread and some others on here and I miss it.I might take my laptop to the beach one weekend and spend the day painting if my battery permits. Or a sketchpad.

And yourslef?I see you've progressed MUCH since I last visited your thread. I'm so glad to see you're guiding the newer members with your talent and words of encouragement. it's a lucky community to have you :)

Hi Johan:)

Thanks. I've been good. Last year was crazy. So many life changing events happened. I'm just getting back into the normal flow of life. I parted ways with my ex and my family and I moved to sunny Orlando, Florida witha broken heart, I'm buying a house soon, I just made a new website that I'm working on ( http://zaixxiaz.com/ ), I got promoted to Project Manager at my job, lost some of my best friends when I moved, made some really great new friends.CRAZY!

*sigh*

I'm glad to be getting used to this new life finally, but it's still hard sometimes. Oh well, it's all an adventure, no?

How about you? How's your injury? Are you 100% again? I hope you can still draw and paint like before since you did it so well :). I miss searching through everyone's thread here. It was my second home. Razz, Magdalena, Anand, you, Glenn, Rebecca.

Good to be back...

Life is indeed an adventure. I see it as a ride and while it's a mistery where the journey will take us each day, I try to enjoy as much as I can (after all, every day could be my last). Things get crazy sometimes, but hey, we learn and move on, right?

It's great to hear that you're in control despite the less amusing experiences.
Enjoy the sun! (I'm freezing my butt off here argh)

Isaias, I've been doing freelance stuff on and off for the last 2+ years. The work wasn't very steady but I did learn a ton from working on all kinds of projects. Done a variety of stuff, like storyboarding, character/environment concept art, illustration, texturing and architectural 3D viz. Took a 2 month environment design workshop/masterclass on the off time, extremely awesome stuff! Liked being a student so I'll try and become a real one next year :) If I succeed, 4 years of academy await.
Ha, I know what you mean about not having enough time for everything. Got into photography and I'm lucky if I get out to take some pictures once or twice a month.
