View Full Version : Learning Wings3d
Joel Hooks 01-16-2003, 10:01 PM I was introduced to wings3d last night, and I started working on this:

Still a ways to go. The lips are going to be completely redone, I don't like them at all.
Any suggestions are welcom. If you haven't tried Wings3d (http://www.wings3d.com) I can't recommend it enough. It's a really nice modeler, and better yet the give it away for free.

Yes Wings is AWESOME POSSUM !!!!
I have tried my hand at a few different packages but I never really made any progress until I got into Wings3d. I do not know much about 3D modeling but this is a great program for any beginner.
Good job on the eyes there Lowdown. I have yet to have any success at building an eyeball into the face like that, but then again I have not REALLY tried yet.

Wings is great for everybody. It has some great poly tools, and will export to anything. Very fast logical workflow to it.

Almost finished with the modeling of this now. I could use some advice on the mouth, and any other parts that look out of sorts.

I've dabbled in Wings, and I found the low-poly approach actually seemed to make a pretty decent mouth. Here's (http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~joshua.y/forumpic/head01.jpg) a head I did in Wings as an example. Also, unless your going for African looking features, then I'd make the sides of the nostrils come in towards the middle a bit more.
Apart from that your head looks great :D
BTW, what are you using to render those?

I am rendering in Max5. He just leaned towards african like features. So I just kind of went with it. I think I fixed the lips.

Maybe that's only perspective issue, but I think something with back of his head is wrong, it looks bit strange. But nice face anyway.

I think the back of the head needs to be inflated a bit, he's getting a hate anyway, but I will do it for the sake of being accurate. Gonna start the ears tomorrow if I have the time.
A bit more tweaking:

I had some tutorials (how to make a head, body, etc.) for wings3d, but I lost them. In fact I don't remember exactly if it was for wings3d or Nendo, because it's almost the same interface.
Maybe you could help me by giving me some links about that?
Thanks a lot and keep modeling, it's very nice! :)

I have those links with some wings specific stuff in them. Follow the polygon link in my sig for a couple of other general modeling resources - that's what I used most for building this head.
Thanks for the comments!

I need to make an ear. Otherwise this model is finished.

I can't seem to get wings delete a face. I select the poly in the image and press the delete key. Instead of deleting the poly, it increments the face number (was 35 now 35). Any ideas? Thanks.

Hey nice looking head. Wings 3D is great indeed. Have a look at my wings resource site at http://www.meshmaker.7p.com

Wings3d is a solid modeler, so you can't create holes in your mesh, but you can collapse and merge as needed. It's a bit of a different workflow than other packages, but once you get the hang of it you won't miss the holes. ;)

where can i get the software?
how?
used like the way in NENDO?
