View Full Version : So is that 3D Buzz boxset worth it?
Squash-n-Stretch 07-08-2006, 02:17 PM Hello; I'm a Max user and I wish to go over to the dark side. The tuition set that 3D Buzz provides looks very good, and fairly priced. However, I have downloaded Maya vids from that site before ( I think they might have been excerpts from the boxset, it was a tut about modelling a motorcycle tire) and the two american guys doing to voice over are irritating to say the least. If I buy this boxset, are they going to spend 82 hours reffering to deleting vertices as 'nuking verts'? Also, is it worth buying for someone with some 3D experience that wants to learn everything in general about Maya?
Thanx in Advance.

Link (http://www.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/sv_mfcinfo.php?download=1) to some sample videos from the VTMs
The tire you reffer to is from "Modeling on the fly". The simply told Zak to model tke bike. no preptime or anything. MMTF on the other hand is well prepared.
Here (http://www.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/sv_info_mfc.php) is the link to the main info about the MMTF class.
I don't find their voices or "nukes" irritating. I would however never make it through 82 hours of any other video tutorial out there, they are just too dull.
I have not bought MMTF but I can say one thing, from what I see from different forums around, it will be worth it. I am a regular visitor of 3DBuzz.com and have watched most of there other videos and they are very informative but still entertaining while still provideing professional training.

Maya Fundamental is a generalist's dream. The fundamentals (which i thought was gonna be basic becaue of the term.. fundamentals) is everything that BuZZ and Zak think every Maya should know to become a well rounded artist. The projects although looking quite basic are drenched in technical ability and good design.
Goto 3d buzz and click the Fundamentals link, They list the three projects and go on to list all the lessons. You will find it hard to get all of that material and qulaity in other training DVD's. If your lookingto get a foot in Maya this will help out no end.
They are also doing a Max fundamentals which will be like the maya one but in ...... (do i really need to say it). They are changing it up a bit i heard, putting in how to use PS aswell. I think what will be a really big seller will be their Houdini Fundamentals class. This will really get people learning houdini to a level that most people will envy, projects like blowing up buildings and learning VEX along with tons of other stuff will be nothing short of amazing.
edit:// what happend with the posts there :)

I bought 3D Buzz's "Mastering Maya: The Fundamentals" back when it was part of their online class. I think it's great material. Personally, I find the guys that narrate (Buzz and Zak) keep things entertaining.
As far as the experience thing goes, I found it helpful as an intermediate 3D artist.

If you're just looking to learn Maya by leveraging what you already know in 3ds max, you might be interested in this DVD (http://draster.com/ttrain_max_maya).
