Hi everybody, I need some help for a personal project. I am planning to model a cable for an animation, where I can strip the cable of it’s layers/insulations and have a close up of it. The problem is that i like the metal shielding (what is woven) to be as realistic looking as possible but I don’t know how to get the effect.

Any ideas of how to get it like that????

Thanks
Marcus

Are you hoping to strip away the individual wires in the kriss-kross (spelling?) shielding? or is it that you will animate layer visibility? I'm just wondering if you want to make that texture. Some of the textural qualities of the way it reflects light are because of the many parallel wires, an anisotropic effect, so if you are really going for detail it would make a difference to whether you simulate it with a texture or model individual strands for the closeup area.

No, not planning to strip the indevidual wires. It could be just a texture and animated like a sleeve but i still like the relection. Would be worth it doing it stran by stran.
