Title: Telluric Form
Name: Andrew Mamo
Country: Australia
Software: Photoshop

This image was created entirely in PhotoShop. My working method usually relies on a series of happy accidents - very often I have an idea and then it becomes something else entirely, so different than anything I actually imagined. It's hard to describe the process but essentially it's a case of letting the image speak for itself and say where it wants to go as the various elements and textures come together in PhotoShop. As a result, I can't say what this image is really about, but upon reflection it definitely has a vaguely aquatic feel, and I almost gave it the more prosaic title "The Aquanaut". I'm wondering if that's how others perceive it...It recently got me a Masters Award in Expose 4, but I would really like some feedback on it.

I love it! wow great work. Such interesting textures and colours.

Only thing that I don't like is the pattern going across the top. Other than that awsome work! Reminds me a little of Dave Mckean's work.

Very cool, kinda freaky actually. It indeed has an acuatic feel to it IMO, the highlights make his skin look wet, top of his head (or is it a hat?) kinda recembles a jellyfish, there's some tentacles that could belong to a lobster or something and there's some plantlike thingie attached to his head that could go for seaweed or celp (is that a word?). I like it a lot!

Congratz with the Expose 4 Masters award and welcome to the forums :)

Andrew - Very nice pic! This is right up my alley as I have done a series of manipulated turn-of-the-century photos wherein I mutated the subjects in a fashion that echoes this image (although mine are monochromatic, usually). Not to drivel on about stuff that I've done, but I thought I'd mention it since I sense in you a kindred artist of some degree... An aesthetic comrade, if you will.

A crit: The nose area bothers me. I'm not sure what I would recommend to improve it, but it does seem rather flat. Perhaps a little glint would do the trick? Dunno.

This makes me think of something that might grace the cover of some erudite industrial/synth band. It's the sort of image that encourage me to buy the recording. Great colours, texture, and contrast. A loving appreciation of the beauty in what is traditionally regarded as ugly or peculiar. Good stuff.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I'd like to see your work but I haven't worked out navigating this forum yet - I don't see an obvious way of getting to your portfolio direct from your post!
