Hi all,
I've always used Pentiums in the past and have never played with the clock speed in my BIOS before, so this AMD stuff and "setting the clock" deal is a new animal for me. If anyone has links to info on this, I would be very grateful. I am not looking to overclock it or anything like that, but I would like to see it run at the speed that I feel I paid for.
It's a 2200+ AMD Athlon XP on an MSI KT4V mainboard. I've got 512 Mb of 333 MHz DDR SDRAM, 400W power supply, and a GeForce 4 Ti4200 card.
So far, I've changed the mainboard clock from 100 (default) to 133 and the processor jumped from 1350 to 1800 MHz. The mainboard is capable of a setting of 280, but even at 166, which would bring the processor up to 2200, is too much and the system won't boot.
Am I supposed to increase the CPU's voltage in the BIOS settings to get it to go faster now? I am uncomfortable with anything that will cause the processor to run hotter, so I am asking for advice first on this. Right now it's running at about 47C and I am hesitant to try to run it any hotter than 55C.
I've checked the AMD and MSI sites as well as searched online for tech pages, but haven't found anything that discusses this directly. Most of the overclocking sites talk about soldering and more aggressive solutions, whereas I am only interested in getting this to run at the advertised 2200.
Any links or advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks all. :wip:
