Side Effects Software is pleased to announce the release of Houdini 8.1. This new version features an animator-friendly Auto Rig, Muscle System, Character Picker and Pose Library. Enhancements to the Rigid Body and Wire dynamic solvers and support for the importing of Collada files are also included in this latest release.

Is the 'Apprentice' also rocking the latest suit? '8.1.655' is listed so I'm going to assume that that's the current premium toolset.

Worth mentioning is that the resolution in Houdini Apprentice version is now full PAL.

Houdini 8.1.655: Increased the limit of the maximum rendering resolution for the Houdini Apprentice from 640x480 to 768x576 pixels (to allow Full PAL encoding).

Excuse me, but that's just ****ing awesome. Houdini's native formats, pic and rat are unwatermarked. This means you can have full 512x512 watermark free texture, displacements, shadow maps, etc, with mipmapping and deferred texture loading.

Wouldn't it be nice if they had Escape for 40% off too? :) That would be another great character animation alternative.
