i posted this in another section of the forum, i didnt get any responses and thought i would try this one i guess i should of posted it here in the first place.. sorry for double posting.


ok .. i gave things a go and tried to create a snow shader .. this is what i came up with .. how does it look? .. can anyone help me punch it up a lil bit.

aswell can anyone tell me how i could create the overlay of snow like on this house in the image.. i know a layered texture is involved ( i think) .. but how can go about creating the thin, smokey/cloudy looking layer of snow sitting on the bricks.. thank you .. here is the image i'm looking at..

It's not bad as a base. Now time to add more detail, like make some areas rougher than others, maybe add footprints with a bump map, or bring it into zbrush and add more detail so it's not so smooth and flowing.

Also, what reference are you working from? A reference pic will help you decide what needs more work. Same with an environment. If it's gonna be a sunny day, you could add little specular sparkles and such.

Thank you for the response. i will make some additions like you suggested. It wont be a sunny day more like a late afternoon. as for reference i just searched for "snowy streets" on google and tried to recreate what i saw.
