nope . . . you got two options, use meshtools [which still expend abillities in max] or you select the vertices and scale them to zero]

thanks,
i have been scaling them to zero but that doesn't get it perfectly right. but it'll do. i guess i'll slap meshtools on there, i hate to do it just for one tool though.

it's not just for that one tool . .. meshtools still has tools that aren't in native max 5 . . . meshtools connect can bridge-connect polies, which max 5s connect doesn't do . . . also, devide evenly [1,2 or 3 times] is something that isn't native to max . . .

Not to be contradictive, but CSPolyTools has this function.

You can download it here:

www.scriptspot.com

It's a set of operation scripts that works with meshtools 2.5(only).

I figure that meshtools 3 is just a gimp of 2.5 for Max 5's sake, so you might as well use it.

Just trying to be helpful...

Sorry, Equinoxx...I hate disagreeing with you...you're words...how they hurt...sniff..sniff...

Doesn't anybody use Align to Viewport?
I must be the black sheep on this one.

I always use the meshtool functions for this... works great... Its odd that the scale thing doesn't really work, but then again I guess it makes sense ....

You can also use the snap tool... thats an easy way to get verticies to line up.

3d zealot, to which function of cspolytools are you refering ??
am kinda confused . . .

could be that i'm wrong ofcourse, but i just checked and flatten is DEF a meshtools operation, as are devide & connect . ..

You know, to be perfectly honest, I am confused too. For some reason I thought that CSpolyTools had the flatten along xyz tools...but...I think I'm wrong. I've been adding and removing and moving around so many versions of Cspolytools and Meshtools lately, I can't tell my @ss from a hole in the ground...Just got my Max 5 upgrade...Does'nt help that all my functions are on the same toolbar.

Forgive my ignorance...If it helps, I really, really thought I was right. :D

Foiled again Equinoxx...

(sigh)

Yup. I'm wrong....Totally, and completely wrong...I just checked. I have to go and put a .45 in my brain now. (I really hate being wrong...especially when I made such a big freak'n deal about it).

:annoyed:

don't worry bout it mate . . . i could've been wrong for the same very reason . . .

which indicates that max still need lots of improvement for us to still rely on 3rd party scripts for that bit of needed functionality .. . ..

now let go of the .45 and have a beer with me

Well...I could'nt actually pull the trigger, as my mouse hand is horribly disfigured from all the right clicking...it's my secret shame... :D

But...I still have my beer hand...:D

I'll have to take you up on that...

Remember...Beer solves all problems...

wait...

no..

I use both the flatten tools and scale. When using scale, I have the transform type in dialog (f12) open and right click the spinner next to the axis I want to scale along. Right clicking enters a value of 0. Very quick and handy.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Ah yes, but at least Max can have scripts written to do the things it lacks and thank goodness for that!

And thank goodness for all the fine Maxers out there who share their scripts with us like Meshtools and CSPolyTools! Could not live without these two excellent scripts! Thank you.

In regards to needing scripts in max to do things, I totally think it isn't a bad thing. I don't expect Discreet to spend all their time trying to write every feature, and its great that they developed maxscript and their sdk so that 3rd parties can add to power of max. I just wish they would try a little harder at including some of the more powerful plugins into the core of 3dsmax (like particle systems and whatnot)

just my 2 cents

Aaron, I never said that it was a bad thing that Discreet allows for 3rd party implementations of certain aspects. the thing that bugs me tho is that some scripts have earned a real good reputation, and i only find it logical that top notch scripts get built into the core.

Ofcourse they can't built everything in, nor do i want them to. cause if they build in everything, the price 'should' go up [logical thinking] resulting in us paying for stuff we probably never use.

but, as said, if something is used often enough and has gotten aclaim form the community. i'd say yeah, build it into the core of max.
