Hi everyone. Just want to wish good luck to everybody!

Once I read that the colums of the Atlântida temples were made of Gold. Finding the Atlântida apart from the historical treasure, has lots of treasures.

I will be making a mattepaint of a hidden city. A lost treasure that is being found by a single person. Imagine the feeling of standing in the steps of this huge door that leads to the inside of a city lost in space and time. What lies within?

The only light source the diver has is a green flare. Every wall detail, every shadow changes and moves has the flare glows and fades.

Here are my first sketches. Trying to find a nice composition and good lighting... This is the first time I try doing digital painting on landscapes. I am learning a lot.

Hi James! Thanks for your kind words. There are plenty more people out there that can make better sketches than I.
I am really impressed with some of the works so far, so I only expect to win knowledge, and that really is the best prize someone can earn. Challenges like this are fun to take part in.

Regarding the final image, I think I might go for 2D and 3D. That's because I wish to try camera mapping and Alp has a pretty good explanation on how it works in his website regarding a cave he did.
He used Maya for creating rock structures, then zbrush for detailing, and finally photoshop for textures. It's time to learn how to animate a mattepainting.
Finally I also expect the help of the render engine with the creation of an underwater feel to the image, with particles in suspension and light diffusion... lets see how it will turn out...

Good luck ricardo!! Like the idea, one day I plan to find a massive treasure trove so I will be keenly watching to see how yours turns out.

Hi Spec! Thanks a lot friend. In Australia I am sure there are a lot of sunken treasures. Although most pirates and pirate ships roamed the Atlantic, from Brazil, to the Caribbean, Australia must have lots and lots of Oriental Pirate ships sunken there. Plus you have the biggest treasure of them all, the Big Coral Reef, of Australia, full of marine treasures found nowhere else.

Are you participating in this contest?

Here is my last update:

Best regards to all.

Here is another update. I started compositing the architecture, and the diver. A whole change to the mood of the image was also done, giving it a more "underwater" feel.

The sound of a mechanical respirator echoes deep inside the submerged cave.
Diver - "Atlantida, I see no fish or plants down here..."
Atlantida GeoNautical Vessel - " 'course not capt. you are at 2000 meters deph..."
D - "...WAIT! I see the something..."
D- "... It's a gate, a huge gatzz..zzffww..."
AGN - " Capt. we are loosing you..."
D - "... how... I am lighting up a flare zz...zz..."
The transmission is lost between the diver and Atlantida.
D - " ... my GOD, this is huge, we have found it! It's beautiful, there is a gigantic statue of poseidon over me...."
D - " ... I still have air, I am going inside..."

Thanks Pavel. I am glad you liked it.

So after some dead ends, I finally was able to do a little camera mapping, and make this thing move. Gladly Chris Stosky will have an in depth tutorials on these matters later this month so I will definitly buy them.

Here is the 4 second animation.

James... I hope the final image I uploaded is ok in size matters for the competition. I worked at 4K, then reduced to 25% size. I will be away from my working computer for next week, so if by any chance a bigger or smaller image is required, please have patience and hold the things for me.

Thank you very much all those who made this competition interesting and who looked at my work. I look forward for the next challenge.
This one was really helpful because I learned alot.

Best regards to everyone.

Ricardo.
