Hi everione!
It's a modeling, setup and texturing personal project that I have been carrying out for already some time for my reel. The basic idea fot this project is extend my knowledge about technicians and anatomical structure. The model is done with maya.
All C&C are welcome!!!

Hi, currently I'm working on Blend Shapes. For this, I will simulate deformations made by facial muscles, in this case corrugator muscle.
C&C are welcome.

Hi! Since my last post I've been working with facial blend shapes, UV layout, displacementMap and some texture maps, but final image it's not finished yet!
At this point of project I want to show you the current state of displacement with early lighting.

Very nice work. Very smooth topology! I love the double-chin! :D
He's a real *Charakter*
Maybe the back of the head a bit too far back? Nitpicking
Looking forward to see the updates!

I'm not too fond of the ears. Even for a stylized character. They're too flat and fat for my taste.
Other than that: I love it!
If you don't want to get into the shading yourself I'd volunteer for it :bounce:
Could we get some more details about the setup you're building?

Thanks for you comments!
philip I'm not very satisfied with my ear work. I think that maybe are big and fat too, but at the same time old people have a big ears and I think that it's possible. Fat ears are caused by the gamma of displacementMap, and it's probably that I correct them. Thanks for your offer to make the shading process, but I'm currently working on it Thanks anyway!.
The setup it's a combination between bones & blendShapes to correct the skinning errors and a couple of expressions to control extra deformations as neck or double-chin.
As soon as it's possible I will post colorMap and first shading tests.
Thanks!

Hi! this is a new update with colorMap test. This model doesn't have specular map, only displacement, color and bumpMap. BumpMap isn't yet finished.

Interesting shadows. I like the color of them but some of them need to be softer, like under the ear. The bump mapping on the ear looks out of place. You need more variation (more reds) in the diffuse map, like on the ear and around crooks of the nose etc.

stuh505: Thanks for your comments. I agree with you in your comments about shadows and bump map of ear area. In fact I'm working with bumpMap, so in few days I hope post new images of it. Too I will experiment to add more red in areas that you say. Thanks!
Lacrevette: Thank for your words!

hey frnd,
It seems that the head is too lengthier than normal humans.
I am not a pro, but its just I thought.
Dude with this much character has surely earned eyebrows ;) Tho he's so expressive even without :P As said by numerous already, the under chin wins.
Really nice clean progression through mapping and setup stages man, ofc the model himself is rather impressive ;)
Agreeing with previous ear crits is about all I can offer for critique, I kinda like the skull proportioning some mentioned as a nitpick, it gives him a kinda strange air, and I think it works as a positive.
Cheers

Thanks for your comments Augh. I've think to make a ear corrections and little bit asymmetry to add more natural feeling to correct him. Maybe adding irregularities at skull.
thanks!

Hy!I leave a small test in which you can see the skinning with wireframe and different blendShapes face based on the action from mimic muscles.

I've done some changes in mesh to add more control over facial expressions. Now I can do wrinkles directly on the mesh. Too I've done correct some triangles on mesh to avoid future errors with displacement on render.

I've done a little setup of fleshy eyes to add more credibility to model.

Might I ask, how did you rig your eyelids to do that when the eye move as well as overall having them open and close regardless of eye position.
sergicaballer
12-20-2006, 05:42 PM
Baothebuff: The fleshyEsyes setup is composed by three separate parts. First, a simply setDrivenKey controls the aperture of upper eyelid and lower drived by eye up/down orientation.
Secondly, orientation of eyes causes a push on eyelids because they aren't 100% spheres. To do this effect I have used a closestPointOnSurface between a cylindrical surface situated where the eye socked on the skull would be, and a locator situated at the most extern position of the eye. This output information drives the blendShapes of the effect of pushing eyelids.
Finally, the dotProduct between the vector of eye in repose and the vector of movement of the eye drives the magnitude of the second point.
I’m not sure if my explanation is absolutely clear because my english is very poor. Thanks for your interest!

Hi there,
First of all, great work. Loving the textures and modelling. Will be following this thread.
Secondly, I am also working on a similar project and your character has a striking resemblance to the guy I am modelling!!! It's unbelievable.
I would appreciate your help as I'm learning the whole process.
My thread is: Male Head - Back Again.
Cheers. :)

I love this kink of work:
Good modeling
Good texturing/Rendering
And a good control of your model in order to animate it!
Great work !
