Hello,

I'm trying to learn how to put a label on a cup using a Layered Shader. Everything looks ok, but the only problem is that the planar projection I’m using goes also inside the cup. The cup is a revolved surface converted into polygons. I've tried cutting some UV's to avoid this problem, but I'm sure there must be an easier way...any ideas? (by the way, there is a good tutorial about this subject but it is only for a NURBS surface and I need it for a poly surface http://forum.simplymaya.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9073&highlight=Label)

Cheers

can you go into compnent mode, select faces and apply it to the selected faces?
(why not use regular texture but a projection?)

well I've just tried that, but then it's really difficult to matnipulate UV's just for those selected faces. I don't really understand how it works.

it basically means that the UVs for the inside and outside of the mug are sharing the same UV space. you need to detach the inside UVs and move into their own space within the UV range. obviously just one method. tonnes of ways to do it really.

I know that method: I select the UV's from the faces I want, and then I cut the UV's. Actually, I did it and it worked nicely. But now there is a new problem. Look at the mug in my previous post. You select the front faces just to put the label on. So you cut the front uv's and finish with 2 separated shells, one for the front part, one for the rest of the mug, including the interior, right? For both shells I have to apply materials with the same parameters in order to have the same color and reflections. No problem. So, in the hypershade I have now 2 materials: one for the label (Layered Shader using 2 blinns: a top one with the Label File and Transparency, and a bottom one with a white color), and one for the rest of the mug (just white color). Now, as I have 2 different uv shells, what if I want to apply a bump map to the whole mug? How do I do that? How can I have different shells for the color node and one shell for the bump map? :banghead:

have a search on the forums for 'decals' and go from there.
