View Full Version : Atlantis : Ismail Kemal Ciftcioglu : the Legacy of Atlantis
07-06-2006, 08:28 PM
Hi everyone, this will be a very fun challenge for sure. This is a rough concept of my Atlantis in mind. There is a strange temple on center. 4 large columns made a huge pyramid there and the city surrounds it. It will be hard to create a very realistic underwater mood but we'll learn lots of things I think. Good luck everyone!
so here's the final image:
hey welcome aboard  have fun and good luck to you !
07-06-2006, 08:39 PM
Good luck too :D interesting start, will be watching this thread.
07-07-2006, 01:12 PM
Hey Ismail! good to see you here , waiting for an amazing matte :D
good luck man
07-07-2006, 02:57 PM
I really like the concept of Atlantis being somewhat hidden away from view. Very cool.
07-07-2006, 06:38 PM
I love the way the attention flows naturally across the image. Can't wait to see it finished.
07-08-2006, 12:26 PM
so here's my second concept:
I will change some rocks, colors etc. and I think more rocks needed for horizon but I like this composition. What do you think? There may be demolished roads and statues on the valley. But I'll make them 3d as well as the city itself. Need your opinions!:bounce:
07-08-2006, 02:27 PM
I like the new sketch. Especially the rocks on the right look nicer than before. But the rocks on that you added on the back are a bit too big and seem to break the depth that the first image had. In the first one the deep blue feeling u had depicted more clearly that atlantis is somewhere in the depths of a vast ocean.
My two cents only as I'm not a proffecional matte painter :D
Can't wait for next update!
07-08-2006, 04:11 PM
hmm yes you're right, the back rocks gain more attention from the previous one. To make them more small would be good, thanks:)
07-08-2006, 09:42 PM
still I'm not satisfied with all those concepts so I made a new one. I think this is better than previous ones. I'll take the city to a more central place but overall my new concept is this. any ideas?
07-09-2006, 10:16 AM
there's definately more depth on this image and I like the idea of the city being in some short of crater..maybe u could combine it with the previous one and have some rock formations in the foreground..
07-09-2006, 10:40 AM
ok finally this is my latest and final concept I think:). We will see the city from a distance but I'll add foreground temples and pillars. Time to add photo elements:bounce:
07-09-2006, 10:44 AM
now that's cool :bounce: i have to agree stick with this one.
07-09-2006, 02:46 PM
yup stick with this :D itss looking hot , and i like the idea that it will be very far back and you can just suggest the structure that the city will have , will be a great omage while also leaving much to the viewers imagination :)
keep up the great work!
07-09-2006, 05:42 PM
here's my digital model made in Maya 7:
07-10-2006, 12:35 AM
so here's the latest version, what do you think?
07-10-2006, 12:43 AM
Looks great! The rocks look to dark to me. Also it looks very blurred. I don't know if you wanted this result or if you are going to make everything sharp.
07-10-2006, 06:42 AM
Hey Ismail, I definitely like the atmosphere you have created. It really looks like the deep sea. The city leaves me wanting to see more detail though. I'm intrigued by the shape and design of it, but I can't really make out the details. I want to know the story behind the what this city is, but I can't really get a sense of what has happened or what is happening. Keep up the good work!
07-10-2006, 10:48 AM
oh yes you are right it looks too blurry. And because of that some details had gone.I'm fixing it.. and also I'm adding foreground buildings so we can know the architecture and/or the culture of Atlantis better.thanks for comments and ideas:scream:
hey man..seems cool keepit up good work!
07-10-2006, 11:30 PM
Looking good man I like it. Just a thought but, you might want to think about making the center structure bigger. Good work~
07-11-2006, 12:26 PM
Greate concept and idea. I would just make a bigger city, but it`s ok! I like it really much :)
07-11-2006, 02:41 PM
Hey Ismail , looking really good so far. But I think some foreground structures would really help. And right now when i look at it , my eye goes right to the middle and then leads out of the painting. It may help your composition to have it a little bit off center.
Great work !
07-11-2006, 03:50 PM
I agree with matellis some foreground structures surely will lead you to the city , in my opinion those backgroun underwater mountains looks too flatten some shadows and higliths will help them a lot, remember this is underwater so what kind of fooliage is growing there? what kind of fishes? to make it more alive
07-12-2006, 02:29 AM
With the beautiful detail in your model I'd really like to see the city closer up. Almost at the distance your render is at. But it's looking really great so far!
Good work. I think there is no foreground in a composition a little. Light from a surface of water on greater depths not such bright.
In water organic particles and particles of a ground should float many. This natural deposit for many thousand years should absorb the most part of buildings leaving only the most significant. And I do not see destructions testifying about accident. keep it up!
Looks good so far, maybe add more big buildings, to emphasize the grandness of the culture?
07-12-2006, 09:39 AM
thanks for all your comments people, I'm definitely having them in my mind while improving this painting. Actually I put some foreground buildings but I'm not at home now, I'll upload it when I'm back in 5 days :) also I want to put some great fishes and foilage. I'm thinking about the plants now, I should search the net for some realistic underwater landscapes I think..
07-25-2006, 01:11 AM
I've been away for quite some time but here I'm back again :) so here's the latest update.I put some foreground rocks and buildings. Also I changed the colors and overall lighting. It seems to be finished to me what do you think?
07-25-2006, 12:27 PM
The coloseum doesn't really sit in there.
It beats down the composition.
The integration is not very well too.
Try to make it more weary - cracks and pieces of rock with some vegetation or dirt.
07-25-2006, 05:52 PM
I agreed with Kutkin, besides, I think the line of perspective is not right with colloseum, the structures on left and right sides with the pyramid in the middle. The perspective on the pyramid seems more tilted up compare to the other structures.
Good work so far, though. And I really like your second latest.
07-25-2006, 05:57 PM
I agree with the guys above about the coloseum, besides the integration issues, I think perspective needs a lot of work, each element has its own perspective , none of them lead you to a single vanishing point or horizon, check it
07-25-2006, 06:10 PM
ok I deleted the collosseum and put another thing&aged it.so what about now?what do you think?
07-26-2006, 12:32 AM
Hey Ismail , I would have to agree with what they said . Maybe try and add some more elements that will fallow the perspective lines you have now. When i look at this my eyes go right to the center and then I start looking around at the other element. Maybe do a quick sketch of something that will lead the eye into the focal point :D
Keep it up
07-29-2006, 01:03 PM
Ok I changed the foreground elements for the right perspective and changed the lighting also. So here's my final image. Still I'm not sure I'm totally satisfied with this so I may make another one :)
07-29-2006, 01:17 PM
looks really good
nice entry man :)
07-29-2006, 02:37 PM
Hi man, looks really nice, how if you put darker on the horse on the right?it seems the light is on the background. Perhaps if you increase the dark on some parts of the foreground, for example on the right, youŽd add more depth. Anyway, good job! and good luck!
07-29-2006, 03:48 PM
The image is cool, but looking on it i wish i could find some water life )) There is a huge plate, so right above there could be some small fishes or stuff like that. It would give a strong sense of the sea bottom i guess
But anyway it is your fantazy and you`re the boss ) Do whatever you like, it was just IMHO
I realy liked what you did! Good luck!
07-29-2006, 04:58 PM
I put fishes, whales but...but I don't know,we see a very large portion of Atlantis and the surroundings, they just didn't look very well here. They ruined the all composition.I'll try anyway.Maybe I have the wrong photos.I played the image a bit:
so if I don't put any fishes, here's the FINAL:
07-30-2006, 09:19 PM
I made a new one :) here's some steps:
07-30-2006, 09:22 PM
and here's my final images:
but still I am open to any critics and comments.Hope you like it :)
07-30-2006, 09:30 PM
Fantastic works man! Love both, but second one is amazing, love that city :D well done mate!
07-31-2006, 01:28 PM
man, you did second very fast !
Love the 3D model of the city, this model with rocks, and light and background of the first could be a relly great result I think, if you want to test one day.
But Legacy of Atlantis, with your wip is my favorite of the two :)
Great work velarion !
08-03-2006, 01:23 PM
I wish you good luck!=)I like "the legacy.."hehe and the light colours of the first one:thumbsup:
