Heyy lol, i liked the reel, and allthough the bit about bournemouth made me giggle, i wouldnt keep it in when you go to send it off to employers.. maybe re-shuffle around the order of your shots too, because i dont think you go your best work at the beggining. Youve probably heard this already but employers normaly have stacks of showreels to go through, and so somtimes watch the first 5 - 10 seconds and if it doesnt make an impact, move on.. well so ive heard anyway.

Some nice work Ashwin. I'll back up what Chris says here and say you might want to reorder your reel. I'd actually put that humorous little narrative comparing the Ravensbourne experience with Bournemouth first. Aside from the fact that people evaluating your work will have a sense of humour (if they don't, do you really want to work with them?) it demonstrates independence of thought plus it stands out, if I'm to be thoroughly honest, from a portfolio of animation 'tests' that whilst executed competently don't have the individual flavour of the school experience piece. Good luck and hope to see you in town soon!

Thanks for your comments:D
Darken-R: Yeah it is, and its fun... its not meant to offend anyone, just a little healthy rivalry.
Chris Bolton: I think you are right, reordering will benifit me, as for taking the Rave Vs Bournemouth out, i feel its apart of my character, who i am, and just as Shake-n-bake said, its about being humerous and the independence of thought, although it can strike the wrong chords with prospective employers if they do not have a humour.
Shake-n-bake: I agree with you on the whole independence of thought, thanks for the support:D
I'm not out there to offend Bournemouth students, it was a piece that took a few days and i thought, i would put it on the showreel since it was simple and funny. Nothing personal ppl

Ooh, bitter :D Haha, only joking. I thought the work on your showreel was good, but it did seem a bit long. Whilst you'll want to put as much work on there as you can, simply because its your work, I'd say you should grab the best little clips (parts with the best sense of weight etc) to make a more snappy showreel.
With the Vs Bournemouth part, although it is funny, if you're trying to get a job in Soho/London, it's best to remember that a large proportion of the people working there are from Bournemouth and may not have such a sense of humour (although I'm sure everyone who went to Bournemouth does :P ) so it may be something to take along with you if you get an interview. That said, it could play to your advantage so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.
What do I know, I'm no animator!

Hey Tom, I'm happy to know that bournemouth students find it humurous and not offending.
As for the jobs down Soho, its like what Shake-and-bake said, do i really want to be working for someone who takes the piece seriously. I am sure its not that serious for someone not to employ me. Its my character, and i quess anyone who employs me doesn't just employ my skills as an animator but my whole persona, and character:D
I'm just an artist/animator having some fun:D

I would be scared if I were to send that out, b/c if the person is sensitive at all to swearing, the reel will be unnacceptable. Most family-oriented studios won't put up with it. The animation has some issues as well, but nothing that a little creative trimming down to the industry accepted 2:00 time limit won't fix...

Hey, nice reel. I like the way its edited in the begining. It does feel a bit long and slow at times. Maybe just tighten it up a bit. On the miracle, I feel like theres some weight shift problems. Also when he throws the teapot he could put his butt into it a little more. I really like the tex avery bit. As for the Bournemouth part, I'd take if off. I don't think you will offend anyone but it might look a little childish. Also, it made me feel like you were trying to plug your school instead of plugging yourself. Thats just my thoughts. Great work though. Good luck

Hey, nice reel, made me really smile! :)
I think you have the timing and weight thing well done. The acting is also good, not superb, but good.
But you should really shorten it up, i.e. the "in-reel" titles show too long, in fact, display your titles TOGETHER with your shots, not separately.
As for your little joke, I think it's really not worth the risk. As harmless and funny it may be, you never know who watches your reel. Sure, freedom of thoughts, humour, and your happy persona, but never think you can impress somebody with an arrogant joke. Besides, real humour is when nobody gets offended.
I'm just an artist/animator having some fun:D
Right, especially employers love that attitude...don't forget you are going to make a living out of it.
Ok, now you think I'm a sarcastic [insert insult here], having a really bad day, but I know
how hard it is to accept that the rest of the world don't love my jokes as much as I do.
Maybe my whole comment is worthless, and you get your reel to the same humorous people that you are and everything goes fine.
Good luck!

I would cut it in half animation reels work better when they are under 2 minute . Look at the animation mentor guy 1.30 max if that with only the best stuff in it. I would cut the bournemouth too, funny for here but not really for the final thing it up to you. good luck getting a job

heh.. i have to agree with most of the people above. profanity is always a sketchy thing to put in reels. some people may be more sensative / offended than others. also... no legs? damn that could rub so many people the wrong way its crazy! im just sayin, the people who look at your reel could be so offended that they cant see past that to your animation.
personally, i would cut out a LOT of that, simply because it wont help you get a job. the school animation at the end is funny by itself, but not THAT funny. i'd imagine if i went to bournemouth (as a ton of people on cgtalk do), i would be pissed you called me an idiot and said what i learned was bullshit. they may be the ones hiring you! just my 2 cents.. always think about who you're applying to work for and how they'll interpret your work.
other than the controversy, lol.. i thought your animation was pretty good! some parts coulda been smoother but overall you have nice timing. and yea, the titles are a lil out of place on a reel. anyway, hope this helped. :D good luck on your search for work!
