PaulHellard 07-06-2006, 02:08 AM Here is the exclusive interview Ballistic Publishing did with Massive Black's Andrew Jones on the eve of his working with us on 'd'artiste: Concept Art'. He was very open, gracious and a pleasure to talk to about his ideas, visions and future.

Awesome. Andrew is so freakin talented it isn't funny. I remember being at one of the workshops and watching Andrew sketch and thinking something was odd. Then it dawned on me he was using both hands at the same time on different parts of the canvas. Dang!
I also remember being extremely intimidated by him. He was always unbelievably nice to everyone but he is such an intense guy.

I love this guys artwork! So much style to it....One thing i did notice in the interview, and I obviously don't know if it was Andrew's mistake or the individual writing it up, but here is the direct quote....
There was definitely more freedom in ‘Metroid Prime 2’ and in this last game ‘Metroid Prime 3’, it was definitely much more of an open canvas to work with them. I also did ‘Metroid Hunter’ which is the PlayStation version.
oops...:)

Peddy, that's the whole point of the workshop. Everyone is there for the same reason: To learn from each other. You don't need to be a professional. Hell, we had people still in high school there! It's not about having a job or being able to sketch, it's about sharing ideas and learning new things. There isn't time to sit in the corner! You'd love it. :D

does anyone organise trips or is it just pay for admission (if that) and organise your own way there and your own accomodation?

You pay admission (around $US500), and you organise everything else. Usually the way it works is CA supplies the community with a list of good (and cheap!) hostels near the venue, and we all do group bookings at a discount. Flights are entirely up to you. I still thought it was worth the money even after the flight expense.
(Sorry for turning this into a worshop info thread!)

dont worry about that. after seeing some of his traditional stuff photographed at the montreal meet im so much more tempted to get the book, if one can be even more tempted than before.

Does anyone know if the images from the interview are included in the balistic publication? I'd love to see that Quetzacotl image at a greater resolution.
