Looks excellent! The only thing I see that's out of place to me is her fingers. I don't know, but they look TOO smooth. But I could be wrong.

Thanks for the comments guys. The fingers could maybe use a little more work for the fairly extreme position, but I got to the stage where I thought that the extra effort wouldn't be worth it - spent too long on it already :). Software is LightWave, hair using Sasquatch (LightWave hair/fur plugin).

Inspiration? I've been listening to Noodles lately (the band not the food substance :) ) so this image sort of evolved fom an earlier abandoned WIP you can see here;

http://forums.newtek.com/discus/messages/2/36340.html?1042733464

It's not supposed to be a portrait, I just felt like doing somethig a little different from the usual SciFi/Fantasy CGI girls - I like those too though.

Terry

terryford

Heh, Psil; I'm glad you noticed that it's a real chord position. I definitely wanted her to look like she could actually play, not just pose with the guitar...

I looks pretty flawless to me

good work.

Wireframe here. It's all subdiv apart from the "Marshall" logo, the girls eyeballs and the hair. The hair is made from 2-point poly chains that act as guides for the hair plugin, they're normally set to not render.

Great great model. Especially like the shoes. I don't see too many well modeled shoes. Great work.

Nice scene! Did you know I have the exact same marshall amplifier? I guess you didn't... but I do :hmm:

Very nice and clean models!

jadedchron

that marshal amp owns.. her face looks like maybe she just farted and she's a bit ashamed tho...

terryford
01-16-2003, 07:30 PM
FeRdI; your neighbours must love you :).

jadedchron; I'm really glad you planted that "farted" idea in peoples minds. Cheers mate :).

Very nice :applause:

The low face is very clean and light

i don't read other comments, maybe i will ask a second time.
Do you want to animate her ?

webfox
01-16-2003, 07:32 PM
Geeez, that's just amazing work!

The face is great and I think the expression is just perfect.

If there were anything to pick at, the only thing I can see is that the loop of wire coming off of the guitar and back up to her hip seems to have an odd, squarish bend to it. I guess it could look like that if there were kinks in the line, but it might look better with a smoothly flowing droop.

Love your work. Please share more!

Nice image. Shouldn't the title actually be "A girl and her guitar", or was the title used to attract people to the thread :D

Anyway I think you got talent :buttrock:

terryford
01-16-2003, 08:47 PM
zeb; I'm not planning to animate her, I'd rather make something new.

Rukuwa; to answer your questions; No and Yes respectively :).

I really like the wire frame render. It reminds me of Otomos work somehow....from that Hippo book. Looks like you got the finger placement right on the strings. :applause:

02-02-2003, 12:57 PM
Very nice =), just one thing, but you porbably already know this, but she looks almost to perfect to be real, but on the other hand she probably uses a lot of makeup =).

I like it even more because I've also got an exact coppy of that Marshall exact next to me =)

terryford
02-02-2003, 01:59 PM
Cheers Bliz.

qchan: The skin is procedural + image maps. Everybody knows about "Sub Surface Scattering" by now, and the effect it has on human skin. My procedural texture attempts to emulate the effect.

Basically, it makes the skin redder and more luminus as the surface curves away fron the camera. I also use a small crumple texture on the spec and bump channels to add slight roughness to the surface.

In LW terms;

Colour: Camera Incidence angle gradient that is dark reddish flesh at the edges to light flesh. + Dark red fBm noise (very subtle) with incidence angle alpha (falloff at edges) for viens. + Image maps

Luminosity: Camera Incidence angle gradient that applies stronger luminosity at the edges falling off to the centre.

Spec and Bump: very small (500 um) crumple to break up the surface + Image maps.

Also I have a 30% ambient (yes 30!) with a strong orange tint to warm up the shaded areas.

Terry

what is it with the stereotypical small asian eyes?? really... while some still do have that kinda eyes, i hardly see that many of them anymore, and the eyes doesn't go with the nose... unless she had a nose job done...

Love the perspective and the feeling that this image gives. I'd have to agree with most of the posters regarding this however... she looks somewhat plastic and not realistic, but this may have been your intention. Besides that only critique, I think it's a great piece!
