SamsonsReaper: that is awesome great mood , great composition and this is just the sketch !!! way to go !
07-06-2006, 10:51 PM

07-06-2006, 11:20 PM
So that's why we've never found it! It keeps moving on us? lol
Your images look amazing.
07-06-2006, 11:46 PM
Beautiful job! Your style is great...so loose yet so detailed! Those kind of 'speedos' would take me year to do :D Good luck and the last one is just perfect!the idea behind the explanation why atlantis has never been found is brilliant...almost as brilliant as mine ;) only Joking! :D
Keep those coming cause my eyes are starving!
07-06-2006, 11:50 PM
Wow man great idea! Atlantis mobile to walk away from everyone who search for it? Awsome!
The only suggestion I can give you, if you want to spend some more time with this idea, is to make the city bigger.
I am totally blown away by the speed you do your paintings and their quality ... how do you do that :(
Keep at it I'll be watching :)
07-07-2006, 12:35 AM
Wow! great sketches, as always, hehe :D But I like both ideas, second one is very sympatic to me. Yeah something hi-tech could be very interesting. :)
07-07-2006, 07:54 AM
DUDE!!! THAT second one almost through me for a loop!:buttrock:Really awsome man, can't wait to see it finished!:D
07-07-2006, 10:57 AM
So that's why we've never found it! It keeps moving on us? lol
Your images look amazing.
haha this is it :) :)
07-07-2006, 02:06 PM
yo the last sketch is great! but i do like the first one more , i know there will be more to come so keeep up the amazing work :)
07-07-2006, 07:03 PM
thanks alot everyone:thumbsup:, i do feel contended with the last concept so i might go for that.
07-07-2006, 08:13 PM
i am trying some architectures, here is a test.
07-08-2006, 04:41 PM
07-08-2006, 04:48 PM
07-08-2006, 05:03 PM
I like your architecture test. Looks fine to me till now.
In the middle of your atlantis... this thingy looks like a huge robot. I don't think it was planned to look like that? I think this is a leg but this is really a little strange at the moment ;)
Keep it up!
07-08-2006, 05:19 PM
it's goin' very good:bounce:
07-08-2006, 05:24 PM
wihoo :scream:, thanks!
trunks : the huge object in the middle is supposed to be the core of the city, kind of like headquarters. I will refine more things here once i get to the microcomposing part , which is not far away ..mhuhahaha:twisted:
07-08-2006, 07:50 PM
great concept and color, what technique will you use for the final matte? 3D? photos? 2D hand painitng?
07-08-2006, 08:17 PM
jamesvfx: thx, 2d,photos and if i cant find the right objects i might do modells and texture them
07-09-2006, 05:42 PM
more microcomposing coming up, new step:http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/atlantisStep2.jpg
07-09-2006, 05:54 PM

07-10-2006, 01:32 AM
Looks great! I can see some small not yet done pixels but I am sure you will fix it with your next update :) It is really amazing how fast you made this great image! Man that's fantastic!
07-10-2006, 05:40 PM
man this is coming along really great, what about something in the foreground to give depth , and to make the sense of scale better maybe some fishes swimming there or something that helps the city looks really big
07-10-2006, 10:35 PM
Thanks alot everyone!!
soon in the final phase, yay :scream:http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/atlantisStep4.jpg
well that's... gotta be good stuff thou man.................................. I mean, nice! now you've really set the bar up high, but my concept is better, but just in my mind  Hope I can execute mine half as well as you did..
 speechless ! and....so fast ! very good job friend !
07-11-2006, 07:37 AM
SamsonsReaper, just going through and admiring your thread...I really liked this concept, the feeling is quite quietly grand and seems more to fit the idea of a lost city. It would be great if you could incorporate the sense of scale that the monumental statue has with reference to the walking / living city. :)
07-11-2006, 01:02 PM
very good and very fast.
07-11-2006, 05:07 PM
I agree with Rebeccak the first sketch you had is the best talking about composition, sense of scale and mood , the walking city needs that sense of scale , this must be really huge if it were real, in my opinion the first skecth works more for a matte painting than the walking city, that is awesome for sure ( the colors , mood , technique ) but hey it's only my opinion
07-11-2006, 08:06 PM
Agree. I think the robot and the lights of their legs doesn´t work. Your first sketch is very very cool and more "matte" Go for it!:applause:
07-11-2006, 09:01 PM
hehe well there IS some time to work on the first concept:D so i might just do that . Yeah i know the composition is stronger in the first but i kind of liked the depiction of a walking city in the second.
07-12-2006, 01:13 AM
well, in my opinion... i think both concepts ROCKS!!! best luck for you!
07-12-2006, 03:17 PM
nice mood..maybe is just a small part of the city.. he can join the city anytime..[using the legs ;)]..it's awesome for sure, very good job..keep going [yap, :applause: ]
07-12-2006, 08:15 PM
cleaning up some lines, and the official start for this second entry is on. http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT1.jpg
07-12-2006, 08:42 PM
Edit* (first robot city concept) looks awsome! my only coment is that it looks like there is a blue whale below the city. While blue whales are big, this one seems a little too big. It actualy makes the city seem smaller . I think possibly making the whale smaller and more pernounced would communicate the scale better.
realy nice lighting. looking great.
07-12-2006, 09:59 PM
another great start:thumbsup:
07-12-2006, 10:13 PM
new update here:http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT2.jpg
07-12-2006, 10:23 PM
Heyyy it´s coming along great!About the foreground cross...maybe I´m familiar with this kind of cross where all we can see at cemeteries and because of this fact, from my point of view, it bothers a little bit. About the size of a typical stone cross... don´t know, perhaps 80 cms height?or less.
Resume: this cross is an icon and I think the main trouble of those kind of icons is that we´re familiar with them, talking about size, texture, etc. So, how if you make this cross smaller?I think it would increase the height of the background face.
Just an opinion, hehe:thumbsup:
07-12-2006, 10:33 PM
thanks GonzaloGolpe, i might take it under consideration  hehe
07-13-2006, 12:23 AM
About the cross... I'm going to have to disagree and say compositionally, it needs to be like it is size wise, or replace it with something similar to take up that space...if that makes any sense. However maybe it's a little too in focus or maybe it's just that the other things in the image aren't in focus enough to make it look slightly out of focus. :p And now that I have you all confused go make art...hehehe..
P.S. I do think you are doing an amazing job so far.
07-13-2006, 02:12 AM
Nice job man... I dont know what to say
07-13-2006, 12:44 PM
yeah go for the second one!
07-13-2006, 02:12 PM
Actually historically crosses were a roman thing and were way after atlantis...or the supposed myth, just my point of view though. All looks great though!
Do you start with a textured canvas or something Im just curious on how your style starts?
07-13-2006, 04:55 PM
thanks for the feedback!:buttrock:
about the cross, i should change it if i want to stay true to the facts, but sometimes it feels these barriers can be crossed if it visually helps the image , ....i dont know yet, going to make a decisiion in the last stages:rolleyes:.
07-13-2006, 07:57 PM
if there is a significal connection to the cross, i guess it symbolises a fallen dead city.
07-19-2006, 09:15 AM
This looks great too, very nice details! But anyway I prefer your first matte because it looks more "matte painting".We can see the overall city and design better.
07-20-2006, 08:08 PM
thanks :), new update:http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT5.jpg
07-20-2006, 11:11 PM
I like the guy diving. Perhaps I´d add more bubbles and animals diving too, hehe, cause the foreground seems to be a night scene, not an underwater scene from my point fo view, but, keep it on, it´s a cool job!
07-21-2006, 05:19 PM
yup going to add some more water-elements, new update:http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT6.jpg
07-21-2006, 09:37 PM
thinking about adding some whales, bt might be too much, anyways heres a new update:http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT7.jpg
07-21-2006, 11:39 PM
This is an interesting composition with great detail, well done! I find that my eye goes on a journey when I look at this picture. Also it you have blended allot of photographs together very successfully. The dimensions are are the square side, that would allow for a nice camera tilt.
07-22-2006, 04:35 PM
Wow... I was in the middle of typing a reply to this a few updates ago and somehow it got lost and I forgot. Long story short, I was going to express the fact that I'm happy you went back to the original concept and I loved the central focus on the statue, but it lacked a presence of the rest of the city. So my suggestion was to not take anything away, but make the view bigger. Show more concent arround the current view. And also, make the city in the background through the opening a little more pronounced so the viewer can see that deep within that fog and outside of the view we see... thers a whole friggin city there.
But... You seem to be doing both of those :D I really love where this is going.
The only crit I have is that I dont like the lighting of the face as much in the most recent update, and the old decaying growth you took away that looked like this
----- ---- ---
- ------------- ------
that was along the chest of the statue (if that makes any sense). I thought that looked quite real and was a bit unique compared to the common choral and other growth. I like the new content, but you may want to toy with that other stuff too.
Great job. I think this ones my favorite so far.
07-23-2006, 11:07 AM
Mobious: thanks for the feedback and crits
man, yeah i have a couple of things to touchup here, the statue is one of them. But not yet, too hungover atm
check in for further updates:applause:
07-24-2006, 11:25 PM
07-25-2006, 12:07 AM
This is certainly starting to work very well.
The last update really helped composition and depth of the image.
I think, there is not a lot of integration between the foreground and the background.
The image could have even more depth by revealing some rocks leading from the foreground to the background.
07-26-2006, 08:11 PM
kutkin: thanks man, yeah i know i will try to connect them somehow
finalizing the image, new update:http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT9.jpg
07-26-2006, 08:57 PM
It´s looking great =) Go for it!
07-26-2006, 09:12 PM
great work so far, I think the big face can have some more light , it is lost with shadows
07-26-2006, 09:13 PM
In my opinion the totally black parts are killing the image. You need some more "life" in that areas. Just don't go totally black. Else than that it's looking really nice.
07-26-2006, 09:29 PM
thanks for the feedback guys:thumbsup:, will look into those issues soon:buttrock:
07-27-2006, 08:49 PM
okidokie, heres a new update, not much time left now. http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT10.jpg
07-27-2006, 09:18 PM
I actually think it looks much more dramatic with the blacks... I mean its deep underwater, light is diffused, but there isn't that much light to begin with. There should be dark darks. To me it just looks all washed out now. I prefer it before the changes, but thats just me.
I love your "Mobile City by the way... who am I kidding, I love all your work!
My Atlantis Submission
07-27-2006, 10:20 PM
thanks man :buttrock:, here is an alternative:http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT11.jpg
07-27-2006, 11:13 PM
I have one suggestion.
Try let that diver swim away from the camera/towards the city.
It may help a lot to a composition of this piece.
The diver kinda take the eye off the painting and the point of interest now.
07-28-2006, 12:39 AM
amazing job so far but the underwater feeling can be stronger, maybe those bubbles from the diver can be larger to the top of the image or maybe some caustics in the big face or some volumetric light can help , also some fishes that would make the image very dynamic
07-28-2006, 04:55 PM
there we go worked on it to give a watery-feeling to it, update:http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT12.jpg
really impressive work !
just one thing after some seconds, your fishs group have same tones than vegets, and in my opinion, it's give a "morph" feeling. Difficult to see where its begin and where its finish.
Sorry for my poor english, do you see what i mean ?
07-28-2006, 05:39 PM
swed: thanks yeah i think so, playing aaround with a lightsourse. http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT13.jpg
07-28-2006, 06:16 PM
adding some more watereffects http://www.leventep.com/Pics/atlantis/AT14.jpg
07-28-2006, 06:16 PM
hey Levi this is looking great! no crits just keep it up :D
07-28-2006, 06:58 PM
I like the bubbles on the right, hehe:thumbsup:
07-28-2006, 07:29 PM
thanks! bubbles huh, yeah those were the hardest to do,hehe :buttrock:
07-28-2006, 10:08 PM
yeah man, bubbles sucks ( I added some to my scene to. Didn`t found any good image with nice bobbles.. all the images just crap
07-28-2006, 11:23 PM
i think its time to post some bigger pics now in the final stage.
07-29-2006, 12:25 PM
here is the final painting, its doesnt have the usuall emphasized landscape feeling, but i do like it hence the eye travels along the painting to its destination ..Atlantis!.
Some really great submissions out there!! , good luck everyone :buttrock:
07-29-2006, 12:35 PM
Congrats Levi on finishing , truly stunning peice! it was great watching your progress through both mattes :D best of luck to you and don't forget about the matte painting forum section after the challenge :D

Good luck in final :buttrock:
07-30-2006, 04:51 AM
once again thanks guys! it has been an awesome challenge :bounce:
07-30-2006, 05:19 AM
I love both images man!! great work. I think the second one is my favorite though!!
second one has better focus and execution, though I'm not sure that this mecha thing reads as Atlantis. Still 50% cooler than other work done for this contest so far :P
07-30-2006, 05:22 PM
Wow! personally i like the first one, looks more reallistic, like something that could actually exist, the second looks too sci-fi looking for me, thought it all comes down to personal preference i guess :-) I think maybe the diver and his sub are a little out of touch, perhaps a few highlights on the diver and fade out the bubbles from the sub? not sure, looking really great though :-)
07-30-2006, 06:58 PM
Yeah man! You did it! It looks incredible and very interesting. Most I love colors and very realistic underwater feeling. Thant huge face is great, Congratz mate! Great matte!
07-30-2006, 08:04 PM
wihooo thanks alot everyone! :bounce: really excited about the judging , and once again good luck toy you all! :buttrock:
08-01-2006, 06:39 PM
That's pretty amazing. Love them! #2 especially...
08-04-2006, 05:52 AM
Absolutely fantastic work in this one. There's not really much I can say about it -- it's just so impressive. Both are very well done, although I prefer the first in terms of concept -- call it a personal preference: I'm not super crazy about robots and the like. ;)
Good luck with the contest!
like others, first matte have my preference, but you've got here two superb images ! congrats for finishing your 2 entries, and good luck for the next step, with your first final matte, it seems not to be a problem.
08-04-2006, 10:27 AM
thanks for the support, glad you like these!:), good luck to you too
Really fantastic works:thumbsup: .Good luck!
