View Full Version : Puerto Rico’s oldest church (1606) - First WIP
Before calling this one done and submitting it in the 2D gallery I decided to first get some feedback here since this is my first 2d work. This is "Convento Porta Coeli" oldest church in Puerto Rico situated in San Germán city. I first drew it in my sketchbook and then painted it in my new wacom tablet using PS.

hi
very nice
at the top of the church there are some white lines, to me it seems that the church is a cutted picture added above the background.

I think it would be better to put colour down with the brush rather than using burn and dodge so much; you've ended up with a lot of black in the image, and a lot of burnt red tones. Also the sky could do with some colour in it; it doesn't relate to the image at the moment.
Compositionally I think a bit more sky at the top of the image would help to give the church a bit more breathing space.
Keep at it!
Thanks! Your critics really helped to make it better so far!
I worked with some walls by adding more detail and caustics to further enhance the water on the floor with reflections that I had to do in parts, because a simple flip down an mirror won’t do it. Worked also with the tree leaves & removed the red in the trunk. Finally I removed the white outline & added more space on top. Not sure about coloring the sky but I’ll give it a try soon and I’ll keep in mine not using the burn & dodge tool so much!
Again thanks and I am always open for any other comments or suggestions!
