This is my first thread here, so am not sure of how things work really. I thought i'd post up a piece of work i completed yesterday. This is the first time i've ever done any digital painting with this type of detail level; so your crits and comments would be appreciated.
I am studying 3D modelling and animation at the University of Herts in the UK, and digital painting is another avenue I'd like to get into in the digital art world.
The hand is my hand and was drawn in pencil first, then I used a photograph of the pose as reference for colour/lighting etc to colour it using my Wacom Intuos graphics tab.

Welcome aboard! :) Your image unfortunately did not appear. This thread may help: :)

I used the image host Photobucket for the Tutorial above, but you are also welcome to try Image Shack:
as Photobucket has been deleting any images containing (even artistic) nudity.
Looking forward to seeing your work! :)

I think I've fixed it. Sorry about that.

Ah, great, now I can see your image. :) I think this is a great start! What I might recommend is adding a color layer on top and setting the blending mode of your layer to "Color". You can then change the hue by going to Image > Adjustments > Hue / Saturation and tweaking things to taste. I think that adding perhaps a bit of richer red might add a lot to your piece. :)
If you'd like, I'm happy to move and rename your thread to the Personal Anatomy & Sketchbook Threads area of the forum:

Glad you like the piece; will mess about with a hue/saturation layer as you suggested.
It'd be great if you could start me a new thread in the portfolio section.
