View Full Version : Gods and Demons - Character - The Commander
The Commander 03-13-2002, 12:06 AM Hi everybody. I decided I'd have a go at this one, sounds like fun. So I've come up with an evil Demon-Rabbit-Thing. It was inspired by many things, including the Rat-Bat-Spider from 'Angry Red Planet'. I'll be making the beast in Maya, doubling it as part of a University project (Don't worry, I only started last night).
I'd lpove to write some fancy background about his origin, but it was just a flash of inspiration I had last night. I hope someone else likes it, I love it

Any comments off anyone, please? Is it to much to ask?
Oh, it's a wip head if you couldn't tell.

Sucks when you don't get feedback, doesn't it? Anyways, I think it looks really nice, you've got some great modeling skills. The only thing i'd say is add more detail, I know it's just a WIP but I'm just suggesting things like veins and maybe some displacement mapped scales, etc.

like it so far, need more to say too much more. the head looks kinda like a bird head, Intentional?
trying to get people to say stuff about your work is hard. and trying get your stuff rated is a pain too. yikes unless people know you it seems hard to be noticed.

Phew, still going - Eee Gad, it's 2.40 in the morning, this'll be the last update tonight, erm, this morning?!?! The 'bunny' now has a lower jaw and ears. Non of these parts are connected, as I want to build everything first.
I intend to add more detail as I go along, but since this is my first Nurbs model, I'm going easy on myself :D.

I agree, your model is turning out pretty cool.
I like the proportions so far, also your updates really shows clearly how you progress with the modeling. Defineatly keep it up.

Thanks very much for your replies, it is nice to get feedback. I'm glad you all like it. I hop the lecturers at Uni do - they only want simple primitive shapes to animate with , but I wanted it to look good for the contest (of course, a good grade wouldn't hurt either!).
I've got to go to bed earlier tomorrow, but I know I won't :o.
Anyhoo, I've started work on the eyes and just discovered how much more work the head needs just to fit them in :scream:. Oh, and the lower jaw now has gums and a tongue, and the back is getting pointy bits...

I'm going to adjust the shape of the head by pulling the rear area of the eyebrow in towards the center of the head, so it is wider at the front. This will help get the socket and eyeball to fit better.

Commander, your model, even in the early stages is very expressive, that proves it is successful. I can picture him with a nervous quiver, rubbing his hands together as if he was planning mischief.:D

how about a back shot of them spikes?

Hi again :), I'm trying to do the eyes as many a tutorial shows (lofting the detail, then filleting that to a trimmed hole). The problem is easily seen in this picture:

If anyone could a moment to help me figure out how to fix the gaps, that'd be great! Thanks in advance.
Oh, before I forget, I made a dedicated thread here, http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4574, so as not to clog this one up with tips.

Okay, so the holes are still in there (a bit anyway), but it's not too shabby. If I can gt the head finished tomorrow I'll be more than happy. Getting the lower jaw attached to the rest of the head may be a challenge, but it needs doing somehow.
You know, I'm quite proud of this, I've learned silly amounts of things through doing this, and can't wait to see the look on my lecturers face -!

I'll also do something about the limbs too (you know, like, design them!!!)

Cool, I'm my own 700th viewer! (Shame it's not 700 replies huh?;))
Well, I have not got the head finished as I'd hoped, but I have been working. Boy, teeth are a pain to do, they just seem to take forever to do. Oh, I thought the lighting looked good on ???'s model, so I made my own version.

Very cool Commander! It seems like you sure solved the stitching problem on the eye area, I tried using Nurbs modeling before but always had difficulties there.

Looking awesome so far ;)

Thanks everyone, these are really nice comments. I wasn't sure I'd get any so this is great!
Alright guys, this is a fairly big one, I've finished the teeth, added spikes on it's head AND almost completely solved the fillet gaps problem! Sorry the pics file size is slightly larger than usual, photoshop isn't being cooperative.

All that's left now is to attach the jaw (and make the rest of the model :annoyed: ).
The Commander
04-01-2002, 03:23 AM
That'll do for the head at the moment. I'd rather have the jaw unattached, than no arms and legs when this competition ends!
So, I've made a start. It's at about the same level as the torso was just before I first I posted here.

this sorta like reminds me of the dragon in shrek.

good job.
