Title: Robot[My VFS project]
Name: Shi Hu
Country: China
Software: Maya, mental ray

Hi,all...
Finally get into VFS 3D class, for celebration I did my first post.
The main character of my Grad Project of VFS Foundation class. In
foundation, I only have 4 month to learn 3D, so I still a novice.
Obviously, it's GUNDAM style. But I did lots original design too.
I use Maya 7 to model this- My 1st High poly model.
The full animation only on VFS server for VFS guys

the moddels are nice but you have to work on your textures

The modeling looks very good.:D

However, I'd reduce the level of reflectivity on the ground and wall. I'd also reduce the number of shadows the models are casting and soften them up quite a bit. As it is the scene is very busy and the reflections and shadows are distracting. I'd also put more space between the front and back views and kill the text. Spacing out the views will also reduced the "business" and better arrange your composition. The copy isn't necessary and is cramping the image's space.

Otherwise you've done a great job. Keep it up.

thanks, guys.

Acturally I just made small loges on shoulder and shield. There is no real texture on that.
And that's what I have to learn in this year!

The model itself is very good.
I quite like it a lot!

The textures and lighting are the biggest area of opportunity:

Camera:

There are lots of opportinities for this, and it rarely requires a lot of technical skill to make a good composition. It is just something you pose, and it is done. Nothing more, nothing less. As simple as taking a camera, changing its parameters of lens, and putting it in a nice angle. THis is a VERY common mistake in most of the robot renders. People that do them know about modeling and some texturing, but nothing about photography to know how a picture will portrait a real big robot. So if you change this, for sure you will make a render that will be so different than the rest!

Your model looks like a picture of a Toy. I don't know if this was your intention. Even if it was, I would suggest to try to make it look more as the REAL big baddass robot! It is not that adifficult. The only thing you have to do, is to change the camera to have a different apperture, different angle, and so. Then the render could look more like "woooaa...that is a big robot".

Texture/Light:
This robot is very shiny and reflective. Adding some enviroment could help it make it look much better. I don't use Maya, but I know there is a property to blur the reflections. Such a warrior would not have very straight and sharp reflections. Probably they will be blured. I can assure you that if you tweak this, your robot will look much better.

Watch out for making a match between the background and the model itself.
As it is right now, the model merges into the background that is also white.
If you want to bump it up, change that floor.
I would suggest something adequate, as concrete, or similar.
If you use a plain color, it will look as a toy shelf.

Hope this helps you out.
Your model is great!

Nice model, LakerHu. And welcome to 3d. I am in 3d59, term 5. I am modeling Zeta Gundam for my demo reel. Feel free to come to visit me in the ant farm if you like.

I have to agree with other comments here. It looks like a toy, rather than an actual MS. It really needs a good texture. Can you post a wireframe?

If you want to do your own design, I suggest you stay away from the sterotypical Gundam look, because your robot looks like a clone of RX-121 Gundam TR-1 Hazel, but with a different head. Anyways, just my opinion.:)

PK Man...You must a G fan too!:) I model it with the HG RX-121, that's why it looks like a toy!:)

BTW: Nice Z Gundam modeling, hope see you final model soon.
