Hi,

I know that Anders Zorn is already in Artists we love thread, but I never stop admiring his skill of painting the water. So here are some direct links to paintings that represent that skill.

Anders is in love with water. Overall his paintings are lovely but some of the people seem less worked on than the water materials. Which seems to be his love. He trully enjoys painting somthing so random. I agree very nice water paintings.

He is also known for painting great portraits, by I thought that analyzing water will be more interesting.

There are also stories that he did not threat his models nicely and that he was not so good man, but those are just stories as I am concern.

Of course the man is a genius, one of my favorite painters ever... but when it comes to water I've always had the feeling he was using photographic reference. For 3 reasons: it just looks so utterly and totally photo-real, it had just been invented around that time, and... that's what I would have done. :) Still I've never seen an art book mention that. Or maybe I just missed it. Or maybe I'm just wrong. shrug

Yes, I guess it can be true. Or maybe we are too much under the influence of must use photo reference. Almost every CG artist is using photo reference when creating real life in computer world.

But also I mention some stories that he was not treating his models nicely and that includes forcing them to stand naked in water for a very long period, while he was painting. And as I sad I do not know is that a truth, but makes me think that those paintings are really painted at the spot - what makes Zorn the great painter.
