I'm thinking about getting raid 1 security on my next computer. Does this decrease performance as compared to having no raid at all?

I'm not comparing raid 1 with raid 0, I'm comparing raid 1 with no raid at all.

Any personal experience or links to benchmarks would be greatly appreciated!

I have no links, but you can expect similar write performance (assuming good RAID hardware) to be near that of a normal HD configuration. Read performance will be somewhat higher (similar to RAID 0).
