January 15, 2002 -- HOLLYWOOD. The Gnomon Workshop has permanently reduced pricing on its library of training DVDs for Alias|Wavefront Maya. Each title has 120 minutes of instruction, lecture notes, scene files, resource spotlights and bonus materials. DVDs are priced at $69 each and may be purchased at http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/.

These DVDs are produced by Alex Alvarez, Director of Gnomon, Darrin Krumweide, Associate Director of Gnomon, Jeremy Engleman, texture painter at Dreamworks Feature Animation and Andrew Orloff, CG supervisor for Zoic Studios.

"For those of you who remember, when the Gnomon Workshop only had videos, we priced them at $69. We then began releasing DVDs for $79 and the videos dropped to $59." explains Alvarez. "Well, now that the entire library has been upgraded to DVD, and the videos are no more, we are bringing back that magic number! As of today, all DVDs have been reduced to $69! While $10 may not seem like a lot, it makes a big difference in the bundles. The 'All Titles' bundle, for example, has dropped by $300!"

Through this price reduction, the Gnomon Workshop hopes to make the task of learning and mastering Maya more accessible. There are scores of students and professionals who are looking to Maya as their means for breaking into the arena of digital visual effects, or furthering their developed skills. So whether you are just getting started with 3D, or need to transition from another 3D application, these DVDs offer a solution for fast-paced self training while at home or on the job.

"ŠGnomon has always been a great resource for our in-house artist development program." states Sande Scoredos, Executive Director of Training for Sony Pictures Imageworks. "The classes are always professional and the content is especially relevent to our industry so we send our employees to Gnomon classes, confident that they will receive excellent instruction to update their existing skills. We often bring Gnomon instructors on-site when production requires custom training classes. I trust Gnomon as a leader in supporting the educational needs of the visual effects industry, as they have consistently provided professional level instruction and relevant courses."

"As an added bonus along with Gnomon's classes, " continues Scoredos, "we find artists are especially keen to view the Gnomon video workshops. The production quality and pacing is good and the information is accurate, well presented, and the lessons provide good working examples. The content serves to not only review and support the classroom experience, but can be used alone for self-paced training. With our busy production schedules, we often use these DVDs for individual artists to explore new ideas and quickly update their skills at their own pace. Anyone working in production needs to keep their skills current and the video workshops are a great way to keep up with the latest techniques and developments."

The Gnomon Workshop is an outgrowth of the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, a professional institute specializing in training for the high-end visual effects community. This on-line resource for the Maya community produces training DVDs and free tutorials which are available exclusively on-line at http://www.The-Gnomon-Workshop.com.

One question, though maybe I should ask Gnomon directly....

Will they be offering DVDs at a reduced price to those who have already purchased the video of that subject. I currently have 5 videos but would really like them on DVD now that they are available. I don't want to have to pay full price again for these but it would be nice to get them upgraded to DVD for a small fee (ie. cost and shipping).

Just a thought.

Stuart.

Can I upgrade from a video to a DVD?

Yes. If you have purchased a video and would like to upgrade to a DVD of the same title, upgrade pricing is $49. Discounted upgrades are only available to customers who placed their original video order online. Discounts are not available to customers who ordered their videos via mail-order.

Upgrade procedure: Place an order for the DVD(s) you would like through our secure on-line store. Upgrade orders must be shipped to the same address as the original order. When checking out, put the order number from your previous order into the comments field. When we process your order the next business day, the discount will be applied.

Very very tempting! Seems like a great starter kit at the same time very useful for the more advanced.

Probably texture mapping 2 or 3. TM1 just covers hypershade and materials.

This price drop is very cool. :)

I'm still waiting on a DVD that covers stuff from the Gnomon Digital Sets course since I can't afford the actual course. :bounce:
