Hi!
I am Matias Zadicoff, Iīve been working on this 12 minutes movie for more than a year already

Synopsis:
is there retirement after a criminal life? no way! thereīs only just more crime to commit

it is dark comedy about unrespect and uncaring for other peopleīs life, but this is mainly a love story after all, no matter if this couple had a life of crime which havenīt given up yet, they are still in love and thatīs all that matters
You canīt blame them, itīs their nature
----
I am really close to finish it, it was a great experience for me, I quit my jobs to work on this, I moved back to Argentina from Canada which was insane and I donīt regret at all!(a little maybe), I wanna get it into film festivals now, create its own website...and I even started modelling them with sculpty clays

So I think it is time to share part of it with you now, I know many of you would like to take the time to work on your own stuff and believe me, you should! I know the limitations very well, money first:sad: , but there is always a way out to handle that:thumbsup: , I am not a rich kid at all, it took me 5 years to save to support this movie

Some technical info about the movie:
3dsMax 8, Glue3d, After effects, Combustion 4, rendered with Mental Ray and ambient occlusion, Photoshop and plugins

2 stations:
Dual Xeon 3.2ghz, 2gb Ram, Quadro xgl 980, 2 sata disk, 2 viewsonics vp191b:bounce:

pentium 2.4, 1gb Ram, Oxygen video card

Production development:
characters design and modelling-2 months
one month to write the script, but I had this story in my head since about 2 years ago
props modelling - 2 months
storyboard and animatic - 2 months
animation, postpro, etc = 7 months

My biggest mistake on this was to record the voices myself and lipsync based on that crappy, poor and unfunny voice of mine, right now I need to record the final voices and I am having a hard time to find the right voices for them, it should be some texan accent, kind of rednecks, cynical, maybe scratchy, passive but histerical at the same time, so if someone knows someone who might work well for it Iīd really appreciate and of course give the credit for it, as I said, I invested all my money but I still could pay a few bucks if you can act them
well, here are a few stills and some WIP animations in preview mode

thanks for taking the time!

Heh, those clips are hilarious, although everyone seems to be falling over and dying. Your animation skills are quite good.

it should be some texan accent, kind of rednecks, cynical, maybe scratchy, passive but histerical

As someone born and raised in Texas, I'm highly offended by your characterization of my peoples. :applause: Just kidding. I'd help you out, but my accent is long gone.

:scream:no way! that`s only the personality description of my characters, not my concept of people from Texas at all!

I hope the sacrifice will pay off for you :) Looking good so far.

I didn't hear any sound in the clips, but the animation was hysterical! Great character designs! This really is looking great so far!!

I love doing voices - I'd do a Texan for fun, for free! Send me some lines and I'll pop you a recording.

thanks a lot guys!

I also expect the sacrifice is worthy!

a launching date? mmm.....within a month or two I guess, I am just working on the final scene that completes 12 minutes exactly, I left out 2 scenes that I really liked but I think it works the same way without them

here is one of the many animations I started working but decided to disregard, in this case, because I dont think that a person who`s been drinkin whiskey his all life would puke because of it, besides I also preferred to avoid gross out stuff like pukes, farts and berps, I know they are always funny :) , but I wanted something differente to that

enjoy the puke! video 7 (http://www.mediaramas.com/videos/deletescene.mov)

I`d appreciate more comments! it`s always inspiring to have other points of views and critics

very entertaining as well.

Hello there :)

First of all, kudos on taking on such a huge task. I hope your efforts pay off

Now, some mild critique... Love the character designs and color palette, however, I believe that in the last two stills, the palette differs from the rest.

Also, you seem to be having problems with the shoulder rig, I see some akward twisting and texture stretching in some places...

Not much to critique yet, but I'm sure more will come up as you update.

I will be expecting a signed copy :D (j/k)

hey matias,

that looks like it's going to be a great piece. Love the whole design. 12 minutes is a huge undertaking, but I'm sure all your sacrifices will pay off in the end. Gotta do what you love!

thanks a lot guys!!

Bleen, yeah, the last image was still in progress, that was just a plain render before, this is how it is gonna look in the final piece

http://www.mediaramas.com/videos/shot1b.jpg

it still looks different from the rest because it is part of the introduction that happened in a different time from the rest of the story

Iīve been inspired for this silly cops by the weasels from Roger Rabbit
for the rest of the stuff my inspirations are John Kricfalusi(I had the pleasure to shake hands with this freak genious a few years ago at the Ottawa animation festival), Bob Clampett, Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, Max Fleischer, Jim henson and sooo many other artists

I am starting working on the music right now, got many great songs on my mind, Johnny cash, Statler brothers, Soggy Bottom Boys, Credence, and lots of other cool country stuff, ...so suggestions are welcome!

Bleen
07-10-2006, 11:20 PM
Well, I don't know much about music, but maybe you could use two styles? Dixieland jazz for the cops, and country for the other folks? :-) could turn out nice

thanks! guys!!

I am not that brave actually, it was more of a drastic decision, wasnt happy at what I was doing and wanted to do something different and more personal

I am working on the smoke for the cigar based on the Allan Mckay tutorial

and planning to fur the dog, not sure if going for ornatrix or hair and shave, suggestions welcome

and btw, I am still looking for voices in case someone wants to help me out!

just a small image of expressions and mouth positions

great concept, animation ... and fun

really love the "job" you do here.
the animation is full of details and has a great toony style.
I love the car driving away in intro4b ... wobble - wobble.

keep the good work up.
good luck finding your voices and developing the dogs (great character) hair.
I work with maya (hair) so I cannot recommend neither shave nor ornatrix,
but if you want to avoid real fur I was realy pleased with the look of a fake fur solution,
using a velvet shader in combination with fur like textures.
PM me if you need detailed infos, or want to look at the shader network, photoshop layers. look at my short "outofthebox" to see the result.

thanks a lot guys!
I am pretty much done with the animation and almost there with postproduction, jut fixing some smoke here and there

the last thing I am doing is the audio right now, should have been the first, but, well...
so if someone wants to help out doing funny voices will be awsome! I tried my own voice and it sucks

here is one of the first test renders I had for the characters, but the kid, the jews and the tall guy(he`s homosexual btw) won`t show up until the next short, if I ever happen to make a second one

Ha, Fantastic. I cant wait to see this short! Do you still have the concept sketches, I always think those are cool to look at, and then compare to the final result. Assuming you've done most of the renders already, How long did this take to render?

Bleen
07-31-2006, 11:20 PM
Hey, great blendshape shot!
Are those actual blendshapes, or are they combined into expressions?
If so, how many blendshapes did you create for that character? (right and left blendshapes count as one each).

wow, super concepts and animation. the rendered stills look amazing as well. i'm sure the labor will pay off once your film is launched into the festival world. it's great to see someone doing something they truely enjoy. can you see my envy

took a look at your site and it was AWESOME. Your cowboys and engines concept is quite funny. keep up the good work and can't wait to see the full short.

cheers!

Awesome :bounce:

Bonnie and Clyde! I saw the film some time ago... great movie... excellent topic imho.

One thing that was weird was the gunshots when the car is being shot... it seemed it was being shot by machineguns, but I heard revolver/pistol gunshots... better practice some foley or get some sound fx :D

Can't wait to see the completed short! Bet you it'll end up in the front page :deal:

Bleen, yeah, I know nothing about sfx, nothing about guns either, I just made the sound for that trailer, but I am not doing the final sfx for the movie for sure, I am talking to a few sound designers these days.

I made a lot of research about Bonnie nīClyde, I took lots of references from the few pictures of them, in fact I represented the poses from those pictures in my movie, take a look at them!

Hey man, just wanted to tell you that I think your work is great. I still can't believe that you pulled so much with creating your own characters, creating concept, sets, modeling, texturing and so on and on... yourself. I think you might become my idol lol and a great example of an independent artist. But seriously, thanks for the hard work and devotion of yours. Thanks for the support of other people that helped you. I don't think it will be more important how much you would earn on this movie, but it will be more important as an example for other people to see and follow this art.

Good luck!!!

Anyway great looking work

Kindest Regards
