View Full Version : Races of Middle Earth - character - minus
minus 01-15-2003, 09:24 PM O.k.... I think I'll give this challenge a go. :) My first time entering a challenge actually.
I don't have a scanner to scan any of my concepts though. Maybe I can take a picture with a digital camera of my drawing.. ;)
The Character:
The very first rains of Illu'vatar on the planet brought life and consciousness into many things. Of particular note... when the rains fell on a particular patch of mushrooms... these mushrooms were given a consciousness, and a mobility. A particularly odd quality of the mushrooms infact allowed the mushroom to hold onto the original rain water such that it would never evaporate.. and so long as the mushroom holds the water, it holds it's own consciousness, and imortality.
There you have it... a mushroom with a "pocket" to hold the rain water, with the ability to move via retractable and extendable roots. ;)

About 20 minutes in.... just getting a base mushroom then I'll tweak it out in places to add the face / roots / and pool of water at the top.

So it's basically a mushroom Ent? :)
Someone else here is also doing a mushroom based character - perhaps you guys could put your characters together, and then we could add white wine, cream and onions, and make a great Middle Earth pasta sauce!! :D
Looking forward to this though - perhaps you could also bring the mushrooms gills into it too - I'm not sure if they are called gills... those gill type things under the cap of the mushroom?
Are you going to make it all knobbly and grubby? That would be very cool, since it is such an ancient being. Perhaps even an ethereal glow :)

Great Ideas... :) I especially like the idea of the glowing etherealness. As for knobblyness.... it's in the plan. The "gills" could be a modeling challenge... but then again.. I'm gonna need something here to keep me busy for a month. :) I was thinking maybe I'd model a few of these guys and put em at the base of a tree.
Here is a start of the root system... and I've tweaked the base a bit too to add some preliminary "knobblyness". ;) I'm debating weather or not I want to try a tree plugin in for the roots system... or not.

You might have the same idea as Clanler but you give it a different look. Which I really like .. so
Keep it up:wip:
P.S.
The last image gives me an Idea of how the creature could transport himself really fast.
He just stands on his head in the wather and goes with the stream:surprised
