Well Hello there!
Welcome to another month of fun stuff. I am looking forward tom this one a lot. I was going to do a comic book page, but I don’t think that it fits into the guidelines. I will have to regroup.
Here is my first pass at the layout.
Any suggestions on how I can make this fit the rules would be great!

I think your page would not fit the guidelines for the final entry, however, as long as your final entry was flat shaded to show off the models, it wouldn't matter what the scope of the project was.

personally, I hope you make the comic page anyway in spite of the restrictions, and just make the final entry fit the criteria, while still having this cool concept.

I really enjoyed your piece last month. I'd hate to see you stifiled over a New Riders book :)

If you do a comic page about gods/demons thats fine by me.
Especially if YOU do it... :buttrock:

I saw your last entry and -oh my god- I'm still jalous!

I'll keep an eye on this thread

What do you do for living, if I can ask?

I really like the idea of a comic page, and why not?
If it will have such a high quality as your usual stuff (..stupid me, offcourse it would....;), then I don't stand a chance...:(

3D ! We want 3D !

Anyway, do you know "fist of the north star" ?
It's a cartoon I really like, with brainless heros and vilains .
In the intro, the hero fight a demon who is about ten times his size . You should try to find a copy of it, goes the same direction that your sketch .

Still like your style, but want to see more ! :wip:

:D

OK,
I started this last night and then decided to do the comic instead. Then I read the modified rules and worked on it during lunch. The Idea is that his skin and muscle is all water but, his bones are, well, bone. I still have a lot of detail and cleaning up to do. He is based on the generic head I always build and can create blindfolded. I then add all the unique stuff. It helps me get the basic form and mesh done so I can start playing with proportions sooner. I suppose it is about 3 1/2 hrs so far. The texture sucks. I hope to be able to pull off the water thing. Hopefully I can use the model to pose in the comic. I guess I would paint the rest or, maybe, build some simple stuff. I really didn't want to spend a lot of time on this. I am still pushing hard on my short film. I should have a pretty tight teaser trailer done in a few weeks!

Thanks for the comments so far!

KOryH - What technique are you using for this model? It looks to be spline patches, but there seem to be an awful lot of patches. And there's at least one 3-sided patch on the cheek...hmm.

I'm new to high poly and I'm looking for a better work flow. Last challenge I modeled low and then smoothed most of the pieces. That was OK, but Maya isn't very good at letting you split multiple polys at the same location (to harden an edge against the smoothing, for example). The easiest way seemed to be to build by extruding and get it right the first time! :)

Looking good, by the way! Can't wait to see the whole thing!

Thanks guys and gal,
As for my technique for modeling, DON'T look to me for answers. I am pretty much a hack. I fudge stuff all the time. Like that 3-point poly, I split a quad to try to get an edge loop on the cheek. I will try and fix it later, but have no idea where it will go. I smooth shift a lot, notice the forehead. I also weld points too much.
The shape is good but the polys don't flow the way they can. It is still something I struggle with. It is really obvious when I start a model from scratch like this. Most of the time I use a half done head I made and constantly refine. It works great for a jumping off point, lazy yes, and also quick. On this one I will be wrestling with the mesh for a while.

Look for an update later to day, after lunch, my time.

Heh. Oops. Site bandwith exceeded for the rest of the month! Ouch! :hmm:

You can put your stuff on alshaheen (http://www.alshaheen.net/artists/) , or just insert into the post.

But like Bibi5000 said, take more lunch breaks! :p

Woops!
I guess I should get more bandwidth, or become a sucky artist so no one will want to look at my stuff. :p
I had no idea that I was even close to hitting my limit. I have been swamped at work and haven’t had any time for fun. I will be at the GDC this week as well. I will try to work on some stuff next week. In the meantime here is a very rushed update. Thank you pearson for the tip on the hosting. And thanks everyone else for the kind words!
