View Full Version : Show your startup layout
AdamT 07-01-2006, 08:06 PM Just curious to see what everyone's using for their startup layout. We've had these kinds of threads in the past, but it's been a while and monitors have gotten bigger and cheaper. If possible, please post a small screenshot (800 pixels wide) and a link to the full resolution file.
I'll start:

Cool layouts guys, though I am somewhat surprised to see that more of you (especially animators) are not using The Third Party's PowerSlider (which give's you a much enhanced timeslider... more akin to what you see in most other animation packages i.e. Maya / XSI / Max / Lightwave...) I find it to be a huge workflow improvement. Editing keyframes directly in the timeslider is excellent!

Here's my layout, squashed down to about quarter screen size. 19" ProNitron @ 1600 x 1200.
The PyroCluster menu is docked in the collapsed menu drop down. I added the Particle Geometry object to keep everything Particle related together.
The TP settings menu is easier to reach as a docked item rather than via the plug-in menu.
I sometimes have the extra scene camera viewport docked for quick previewing.
It looks kind of cluttered but at full size with mini icons it not too claustrophobic. ;)
I hope to get another 19" monitor in the future.
Cheers, Alan.

I find putting all the tool palate icons between the main working window and the AM with the object manager just on the other side increases worflow dramatically, it takes a couple of days to get used to but then it really pays off.

Hi Alan,
I like the layout.
Allmost the same style I prefer. All necessary tools placed arround your working area.
You can get some more space if you set top and left icons to middle size.

Working here with 2 21 inches, running both at 2048 x 1536. (samsung syncmaster 1100MB)
No special layout config for C4D, so i won't be posting a screenshot.
anyway, the reason I post here is for the following offtopic question.
Did someone allready tried working with 3 screens on one pc.
I've got an extra 21 inch here, & could use it in my workflow.
I'll have to buy an additional GFXcard to connect it to the pc.
But my main question is ... how does Windows work with 3 screens, do I have to search for 3rd party drivers ? Can nView handle 3 screens, can I keep all my screen shortcuts ?

@Sneaker. Hi Michael, all the icons are all at Medium Size in the snap. I still have about half the palette floorspace available. The snap is almost full size but only occupies 1/4 of the screen.
Mini icons are almost lost at 1600x1200 and I end up craning my neck to see what they represent.
If anyone uses keyframes, even just once, get Ed's TimeJumper2. Brilliantly simple. ;)
Cheers, Alan.

I know I have said this before, but just for the heck of it, the XStacy theme and interface is super-nice.... it would be really cool if Maxon included it standard.... and for the love of God at least make the Maja interface the default rather than the godaweful blueberry scheme with the silly wireframe junk backgrounds, which makes C4D look rather like a toy. Same goes for the C4D logo (ugh)... ;) It is such an awesome application... it deserves a good brand / design!
Here's my setup
24" Dell and an 19" Eizo .
I've made me as much viewport visible as i could by stocking all trhe palettes above in a row, even the status line went up there. I use it over a year now feaw changes more on the second monitor. I'm one the guys who uses the oldschool material pannel ... sticked to the right under the stributes ...

now that I"m on a fancy LCD I can't read my monitor at 800x600 so now I'm resorting to keeping part of the screen sectioned off. As we get intot he higher end faster paced videos I'll be doing 1024 and scaling down. that will at least make life a little easier to work with.
the screencaps also make me miss my old dual displays.

One for basic work (the real startup layout) view it here (http://www.jdaulte.ch/extgallery/2006/Schermo-1.jpg) and a second for modelling view it here (http://www.jdaulte.ch/extgallery/2006/Schermo-2.jpg). I consider this my second startup layout dependig the work.

DEAR LORD!
You should get extra points for being able to do what you do with that!
I've noticed how many people put the Camera Tool (not the Camera Object) in the left column next too all the other tools. I've done the same for a long time and have never understood why it didn't come as the Maxon Default.

Hi kromekat,
I see that you have two Attribute Managers, one set for a hypernurbs object and the other for the move tool. None is locked.
How do you manage that? Do you have it sort of automated or you just navigate one of the managers with the arrows?
In the AM check the mode->Configure Mode menu
