First you'll need to buy tracking software like Bojour or PFtrack. Shoot your footage and then track it in one of those programs. After the program creates a tracking data file you'll need to import it into a 3D Program like 3D Studio Max or Blender or Maya or whatever. The file will create a camera in 3D Space which will match with the live action plate.

Take a lot of still photos of your set at different exposures. It won't be as good as doing a full HDR setup with a reflective globle, but it will give you something to work with in your 2d program in terms of using the lighting in your real world scene to light your 3d model.

Color correction is a big part of matching 3d plates into a live-action set. Make sure the shadows are the same color and density in both the 3d and live action, as well as the highlights. Then proceed to adjust the overall color balance, matching the 3d plate to the live action. All of this work can be done in After Effects using the Levels or Curves tools.
Another trick that will help blend your plates together is light wrap. Light wrap is a naturally occuring phenomenon where, for example, a bright sky behind a person will create a halo of light around them. For a decent tutorial on creating light wrap, check this out.
