View Full Version : Welding Verts In EPoly Mode
FatAssasin 01-15-2003, 05:08 PM Anyone know why you can't weld vertices that don't share an egde when you're editing a poly object? For example, attaching an object and then welding the vertices of the new object to the old one so that it's now one mesh. That's the only reason I still need to switch to mesh mode when I'm modeling. I'd love to just be able to stay in poly mode instead. Does anyone know of a script that will do this?

Sorry. I try it and I can weld two vertices two objects. I create two box then convert to epoly erase one polygon on each box and then attach together and then weld vertices.
Where is problem ???

I can't tell you the reasons for this.. but in nearly every instance I 've had where 2 vertices would not weld in e poly.. they would collapse even if they weren't joined. so now I always try collapse first and only use weld for when that won't work.. but of course that's only useful when you haven't got a whole line of them but in those instances weld has usually worked. :)
howdy !
it does happen at times that vertices won't weld but most of the time it's because there an extra polygon that should not be there and needs to be deleted - i don't think that you have to switch to mesh for that, if really it looks like they won't weld there has to be a reason and a work around : )
at times i get errors in my meshes and applying a check modifier can save you time by spotting such errors as double faces, open edges, duplicate edges...

I think the 2 overlapping edges are giving you the problem.

Hey, thanks for the replies. Now that I go back and try it, of course vertices are welding all over the place. I just thought it couldn't be done so I never tried to figure out why. Now that I know that they should weld, I'll try harder to figure why some don't when I run across it again.
Thanks!

In a few instances when neither weld nor collapse work, you can select the hole with border, use cap to fill it, then try collapse. If it sitll doesn't work, connect the verts to get an edge and it should work. It happens once in a blue moon that you need to do that... ;)

Usually seems to happen if there are stray verts or a bad poly somewhere. Collapse to a mesh or stick an emesh on it and collapse it back... that usually solves it.
