Wow, thats a big picture with little content. I like the idea, but its a little hollow I think.

It looks too "empty" put a tree or something. Great idea!:)
Interesting. You should look at the political silouette work of Kara Walker:

what do you guys think about it now ?
The red was a nice blood reference. More oppressive. This is more pretty. It depends on what you are going for. This one is also more cinematic, since I read the black at the top and bottom as letterboxing.

from the beginning i wanted to make it more cinematic, as in band of brothers or such. But i ended up with a red background which i thought was cool. But i changed it and think i have come closer the result i wanted from the beginning...

the tree is too short , the guys head almost touches the branches.
Go stay under a tree to see what i mean , you should at least scale it 2x
good luck ,

ah thats cool...!
I had a idea like that before, like something on one side of the tree, perhaps a soldier, and on the other side a whole bunch of dead soldiers...maybe?´
nice doh!

maybe you could add a rifle that's sticking inti the ground with a helmet on it, and put it in front of him. His companion that didn't make it :)
i really liked the original that you took away... i know it was very empty but the single colours made a bold effect... tho what you have now is good too
:insane:

Hi enzodiac, I like this picture it's really nice. But I think that the painting-style of the sky and of the landscape/soldier differ too much (intentional???). The sky is very artistic whereas the landscape/soldier are painted in a very clean way. Maybe you could give the latter a more artistic outline, too.
You could also try to move the focus a bit off center. OK, these are just suggestions.
By the way your image reminds me very much of an old Amiga game named "Lost Patrol" (http://www.cartwright33.freeserve.co.uk/amiga/lostpat.htm ).

I still prefer your first version. Much more oppressive. This could almost be used in an army recruitment brochure. It's like you've gone from criticizing it, to romanticizing it.

I agree. I like the first version too...it kinda has a certain silent, yet dramatic feel. I think of it as a battle weary soldier, bitterly missing home, his comrades, and the peace the land once had.
I get the impression that if I looked closely, I would see him weeping.
