View Full Version : Perspective view adjustment in Modeler - do you use it?

In the beginning I didn't understand why something I made in Modeler looked so strangely different in Layout, until I noticed the Perspective View adjustment slider in Display Options.

I turned it off to the left and I haven't really thought about it since, until today - and I'm just curious what settings you people have on that slider..?

To be of any proper use it should have a numeric input so you could enter the camera focal lenght, as you do in Layout. The slider is too random in my opinion.

Yup, I started another useless thread... lol

I've never really bothered to adjust it myself :p

I always keep mine to the left... I can't stand the distortion while modelling. Before Lightwave I used Blender and although the renderer and modeling tools are far below Lightwave, it had some really good features such as the ability to turn on and off the distorted perspective view. I did most of my modeling in orthagonal view (no distortion) and would switch to perspective for rendering. With Lightwave it would just be nice to have the ability to view orthagonally and turn on the distorted perspective only if needed. Sometimes even renders need to be orthagonal so they can be used in technical documentation more easily, but without weird camera adjustments or plugins, Lightwave doesn't do this...

I normally keep it in it's default position...

The problem with leaving the slider way to the left is that it will produce inaccurate (or distorted) proportions. That's why I never model in an ortho view (except for the left, right, top, bottom, front, back views).

Hmm... then I wonder: Where is the default position of the slider?

Looking through both the LW manual and Dan Ablans' Inside Lightwave 7 guide, the general introductions to the Modeler interface and Display Options panel have the perspective slider slap bang under the middle of 512 texture resolution button.

wgreenlee - Yes I modeled the girl in my avatar. The reason it isn't on my website is because the model isn't finished yet. You can have a peek on my WIP here. (http://www.akdesign.no/ezboard/bodyfront2.jpg)

Spook - Whooa! Really? That is a hefty distortion. I assumed the default position would be just between the "128" and "256" buttons.

And I'm still wondering why I started such a silly post in the first place...
