30th June - 3D-Palace (Durham, UK)
3d-Palace is pleased to announce the release of the first of our new line of training DVDs aimed at aritsts looking to learn more about game development. This twenty two hour long DVD set, produced by 3D-Palace and created by university lecturer in game development Greg Dowding comes on two DVDs and also includes all .max files, photoshop files, textures and created reference imagery.
The set is suitable for artists working with Autodesk 3DS Max (6,7,8) and Adobe Photoshop (version 5 and above).

DVD One contains a complete learning course that shows the full end to end creation of a low polygon Troll character suitable for use in a FPS shooter, RPG or other 3d game. Following this, the course then covers creation of the accessories including weapon, clothing and more.
Following the modeling of the troll in 3DS Max the next course moves to the unwrapping of the entire model including accessories. This is done over several lessons and works on small pieces - head, hand, feet, torso and so forth, building up a suitable complete unwrap for texturing. The course then finally moves to covering use of Photoshop for texturing the head of the Troll.
DVD Two carries on where the first one ended, showing how to texture the entire remainder of the troll then moving on to demonstrations and discussions on specular mapping, video post and rendering techniques.
Next the course covers rigging up the model using 3DS Max Character Studio Tools and applying animation to the rig - the rig is checked and prepared for the last stages of the course.
Finally the set shows the complete process for preperation and exporting of your model into both the Quake 3 and the Doom 3 engines to the point of being able to actually use your character in a deathmatch.
The second DVD also includes bonus lessons in AVI format relating to unwrapping a marine character including max and reference files as well as including all of the files used in the lessons. Assistance of a technical nature or to do with the contents of the DVD are offered inclusive via the 3d-palace website (http://www.3d-palace.com).
