Here's my concept for this challenge .

I've been working thinking of a line from the film "Jacob's ladder" :

"If you're frightened of dyin' and you're holding on...
You'll see devils tearing your life away.
But...if you've made your peace,
Then the devils are really angels,
Freeing you from the earth ."

So I'll try to make my character not too evil nor good as he is just a "deads conveyor", a bit like Charon .

cool concept el tonio...you got a good start on it cant wait to see some more...

Is it going to be more like an angel type creature or an evil one...seems that its kinda a mix of both....color and wings seem more toward fairy while it has a ribcage and spine that seem somewhat grusome

I'm excited to see how you do the wings. ;)

Thanks for the comments !!

For Hellbring, yes he's gonna be a kind of mix of good/evil . As I see him as a kind of conveyor of deads to purgatory .

For Mrjosh, don't worry I'll give you a pair ;)

And now, the update . At the basis, I would have like to take my inspiration for the head of my character from Tim Burton's Knightmare christmas thing . But as I model on, it's turning on a strange other thing I'm not really satisfied with .

Anyway, tell me what you think (3d vs 2D) is the best .

I feel like there aren't enough posts here, so I put one more...

More seriously, does someone knows why my shadows are all messed up in Lightwave when I use raytrace ?
I thought for a while that it was some 4-polys wich were way too unplanar, but changing to tris don't change anything .

Please Lightwavers, I want shadows !

El Tonio,

I'll be expecting my wings...

I'm sorry I can't help you out with the Lightwave problem, I'm a Maya kinda guy, but if you post a pic of the problem you're having myself and others may have some suggestions.

As far as the 2D vs. 3D, I really like the 3D. I don't think it differs too much from the concept sketch. It has elements of both good and evil which is what you're going for. I think on the sketch his brow isn't quite so defined. Try flattening out where the nose would be and see if it doesn't look more like the concept. Hope that helps. Keep it coming !!!!

Nice concept! And I really like the head so far; keep it up!

PS. Don't use lightwave, so I can't help you there.

Thank you all for the comments !

I've been changing it a bit, and here's the wip .
I also add an avi (divx 5) of the head turning around so for those of you who would have an explanation for these strange things appearing in the raytraced shadows in lightwave7...

Something different : I spend so much time on seeing what others are doing and trying to contribute, that I hardly find the time to work seriously on my model... I've done almost nothing on it, but I'm exhausted

I'll try to focus a bit more tomorrow :)

Great modeling so far, although I felt the first head you created was developing nicely, can't wait to see more.

Ok, here we go again !

Small update, definitively shaping much more the way I wanted to .
Finally, I think his hands will be replaced by metallic gloves . Much more challenging in term of modelling, and I think the style I want to give them will give the overall a nice touch .

Sorry for the "crucified" pose . I can't stand that no more, but I plan on animating him a bit, so...

El Tonio:

I'm liking what I'm seeing. You are definitely on the mark when it comes to sticking with your concept. I'm waiting on the wings for some inspiration...

I'd like to see some more definition in the chest and shoulders. Nothing major though.

Added some details, and still a lot to do .

IMHO you should probably continue the spine detail up the full length of the back (inside as well as outside). Like the idea of this one though, the details are comming on too i c. Keep it up m8 :D

Better late than never...

An update with a lot of little details added .

El Tonio:

I'm loving the details, especially on the inside of his ribcage. I'm not sure about the mouth or the eyes. The mouth looks like it goes too far around, almost to the back, of the head. It just looks a little awkward. As for the eyes, I really liked the vacancy of the hollowed out socket like you had before, as is depicted in the concept sketch. I'm still loving the updates. Keep em coming!!!!:wip:
