Hey yall - I just started some of my first propper animation....I've done a tiny bit in the past but usually its just messing around.
This is of a skater doing an olly, it needs alot of work....so far its about an hour of keyframing and tweaking.

sup' bud its a start!

Do you have accessible skate vids? I used to be into that stuff, and I know what would help this right off the bat i noticed is much bigger anticipation before the pop. I mean I've seen these guys crouch down so low on the board, not only bending their knees but much more at the spine also, with the upper shoulders following the bend. You seem to have focused on the legs only

As for the ollie action, really have him SLAM the back foot down and slide that front foot up the face of the board, the ankle will rotate more on the front foot slide too.

basically my advice is to really study an ollie more, and slow motion it and maybe do some drawings of the extremes, and transfer that study into your digital work.


good luck on it , and be sure to post more refinements as they come along! because what is the saying? When your animation looks perfect, its about halfway done or something like that? haha

Hey thanks for the advice man, i'm definitely gonna go digging into my bro's dvd collection for his skating vids haha.

I think its getting closer but it feels like its floating a bit. He does however, kick his board alot more (probably still needs a bit more) and roll his ankle like u sed, so thanks for that, its helped.

I've managed to work out a few things....like how to really basically use motion mixer to mix the ollie animation with other motion - so i've put together this really simple 5050 grind - it needs alot of work but its a start.
