View Full Version : Animation problem after rigging
cherrypinklovesu 06-29-2006, 07:55 AM I have been rigging a model in 3DSMax 7 which is a game model used for animation for a mobile game. I am facing a problem while rigging it.
the height of my model is 6 feet according to the chosen generic numeric units in Max. so while doing bone set up, i had to reduce the radius of the bones to 0.2 against its default size of 10. Now after rigging it, when i am moving the controllers, the bones are not rotating smoothlly as opposed to times when i used to model and skin a bigger model.
Can you help me with this?
Is there a script required for correcting this issue?
If i change some settings in Max, will it be OK?
OR if is it a calculation problem?
(but my PC already has 1 GB RAM and 3 GHZ of speed)
thanks!

so if I understand you clearly, your character size is 6 unit? In defult, 1 unit in Max equal to 1 inch. It would be a problem because the value is so small, but I doubt that would be the problem. Upload some mov file or screen so we can understand the problem more.

thanx jackson for reply,
check attached file and see why the bones are not moving smoothly.

I couldn't open the zip file because I am on a public computer at the moment... But if I understand correctly, the value is too small.. So, try animating a rotation from like: .001 to .05 in like 10 frames on the X axis.. If it creates a nice rotation, then the values are too small.

I think your IK chains are having a problem solving at such a small scale. The bones in the IK chain seem to be the only bones that are having the problem. Sorry, I don't know more.

Hi Laxmi
select IK chain and Under IK Solver Properties, reduce the pos and rot threshold to .001.
This definetly was a scale problem and the threshold needs to be adjusted accordingly.
Hope this helps
