View Full Version : messy maya?
beatoperator 03-12-2002, 07:25 PM it's been for months that my Maya 4 is 'messy'.
after some time working in maya, my hypershade (and hypergraph) go crazy: there's no spheres in material slots, there's no titles on the nodes in hypergraph. I can't work! when I restart maya, everything works fine...
this problem is following me for months, and I am not still able to solve it. :(
I am working with Maya 4 on 900mhz Athlon PC with 512 megs of ram and Elsa Gloria III (I am driving 1600X1200 resolution)...
anyone have ANY idea what is going on?

I get that occasionally also. Just keep restarting:eek:
Do you by chance work on the same project on different machines?

That Should be a graphic driver issue.
I had the same problem when i was running maya under Sgi 320 , when i updated the drivers the problem went away.
hope that helps

As Sheep said, most likely a driver issue. I run Maya under a Gloria III all day without issues. Check ELSA's site for new drivers.

Easily could be the need to reload or update drivers. You could also try reloading Maya.

My friend also got this issue. Even though he upgraded with latest driver, his computer still couldn't display correctly while using maya. Once he changed his motherboard, that display issue just gone and everything works very well.

I always had newest drivers - but still the same...
someone told me that this is something about previous version of maya installed...
I had Maya 3. after uninstalling maya 3, maya 4 is installed...
hey Kuoer, what motherboard your friend had?
I have ASUSa7v133...

If the motherboard is the issue, you could have a go at upgrading the bios :)

I've had a similar problem with totally different hardware.
It definately sounds like a video card problem. So, here's a possible workaround until you get your Drivers/Hardware in gear. [I call it workaround #874]
I've found that minimizing the window of the Hypergraph or Hypershade when it is not totally visible on the screen, and then calling it up again will cause this problem.
to fix this, I make sure the whole window of the HyperShade/Graph is visible on the display. Close it, then recall that same window.
It usually fixes the problem. If it doesn't I restart. [workaround #1]
Hey buddy I ran into an issue such as this a few years ago with the Oxygens. The people at then (Dynamic Pictures), now 3dlabs, helped to explain how this work
Video card runs "Accellerated" up to a certain resolution&refresh rate. So I would bet that 1600x1200 is not running at the "accelerated" speed. Dont bother looking in the manual I didnt see it there either.....lol (Documentation) ha!
I wrote elsa and asked what this size would be.
You may want to do the same.
But for now try running at 1024x 768, then 1280x1024.
Good luck,
G
