View Full Version : a little help new system with floppy drive issues
tecton3d 06-28-2006, 11:28 PM alright, I built a system and can't get the damn floppy to work. It is there during boot and even when Win32 is up and running but when I put a disk in, there is no light and no reassuring click sounds coming from the drive. I double checked all the connections and everything is nice and tight...
thanks

check the BIOS settings for 'detect at startup' and that A/B are not swapped.
Is the floppy set as one of your bootable devices?

Why would anyone want a floppy drive?

XP will only take third party drive controllers off'a floppy for one..
make sure your floppy cable is not "flopped"

if "removeable" is the floppy then yes
lollygag basically said what i was going to say.
But to help determine if that is the problem, check the floppy drive light. If the cable is flipped wrong, the light will always be on. If the light is off, then you've got the cable facing the right way. Generally speaking, from my experience.

thanks for the replies! I'm running prime right now and will check for cable flopping in about 4 more hours : )
fwiw: the system that's giving me issues is a dual xeon currently running 1.6lv D1 xeons @ 200x16 (3.2ghz) Prime stable for 18+ hours:beer:
