View Full Version : Flying Ribbon Tutorial (or general help) Needed
cerebralcortex 06-28-2006, 10:09 PM Im working on a motion graphics piece and the job calls for some colorful pieces of ribbon to come flying out of the center object towards the viewer. I thought I could cheat it in Illustrator but the people want the ribbon to be way more animated and flowing. I tried screwing around with some poly planes but I just cant seem to get them to do what I want... My next guess would be the CV curve tool but thats where I start to get all "derrhh".
Is there any tutorials out there that anyone knows of? Or is there some general help that anyone can give to get this to work right. Thanks.

A flying ribbon? Well if what you want is anything like this in here (MPEG DEMO (http://www.geocities.com/firas3d/smartTwoRailDeformJiggle.mpg)), then you can very easily achieve this effect by using the smartTwoRailDeform script by Firas. You can find it on highend3d.com (http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads/mel_scripts/animation/4011.html)
Hope this helps!

thanks guys. Thats pretty close. It doesn't need to be so cloth-esque. Id prefer not to have to use a script. Also im not too sure how to use the wave deformer. Is there a tut for that around? I checked but couldnt find one. ... Im still stuck.
Is there a way to do it with the EP curve tool?
