View Full Version : Question: Mask/transparency in viewport
FBMachine 01-15-2003, 05:23 AM I'm trying to figure out if I can set it up so I can have an image plane with a part masked off in the viewport so I can have the foreground elements of the image visible and in front of the 3d scene, but with the 3d scene visible through the masked off portion. I'm not asking how to do transparency for renders, I know how to do that, and I actually don't need it in the renders since I'm going to composite it separately, I would just like it in the viewport as a reference. Is this possible? Thanks. :wavey:

No that's just on how to set up an image plane.. I'll attach a pic to make it clearer. I really just need to know how to see transparency effects in the viewport if possible. I don't think I'd be able to do it with an actual image plane since you can only map an image file or a texture to it, not a material, so if it's even possible I'd have to just use a plane attached to the camera... But the normal ways of doing transparency by mapping a mask image to the transparency input of a material doesn't show up in the viewports, only in renders.

Stupid me... I figured it out if anyone cares, just needed to use a targa with an alpha channel as the image, works in the viewport just like I wanted. :bounce: Me being into game engines, I should have thought of that sooner. :wip: Thanks anyway.
