View Full Version : Anatomy Thread of Pixelplay
PixelPlay 06-28-2006, 01:26 PM Thought I would jump into the anatomy forum for encouragement and criticism. I am trying to go back and learn the basics since I was taught contour drawing but have limited knowledge of anatomy construction. Using a blend of Hogarth and Loomis for instruction while trying to find my own middle ground. Well, here's to learning. . . .

PixelPlay,
Welcome aboard! :) I hope you will join us in the Anatomy Lesson Series (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?threadid=375031). It would be nice to hear a bit about your art training and background. Looking forward to seeing your work. :)

Thought I would try to participate in the current anatomy lesson series though I am doubtful that I can complete 50 heads in 30 days! 5 maybe. . . . Here is my first attempt:

I thought that I would just work in pencil and scan in WIP steps as I went along (I like to see other people's WIP so I thought maybe someone would like to see mine) but I found that the scans looked terrible so I abandoned that idea and finished in Painter. I have only limited time to be at the computer so most of my stuff will have to be in pencil or pen with a clean up in Painter. Family, work, and a 6 week watercolor workshop have most of my time with very little left for this but I will try.

PixelPlay,
Lovely work, and the limited time is totally understandable ~ just do the best you can! :)
One thing I request is that image posts be no more than 800 pixels wide ~ that way, no one has to scroll to see your image / text. :)
Great stuff, it's really nice to see the WIP!
Cheers, :)

Thanks for the comments!
I left this image wide on purpose but cropped down the image for the anatomy lesson. I understand about not having to have to scroll to see the image and will remember that in the future. Sorry bout that.

PixelPlay,
Ah, no big deal! :) Thanks for cropping that for the main thread.

Ok, here's my next head. Just a quickie done at work (shhhh). Pencil on a scrap of paper I pulled off a float of cardboard boxes since I didn't have my sketchpad handy.

PixelPlay,
Lovely solid drawing. I swear I won't mention this to your boss. ;)
Cheers, :)

Whoo... I love the bold outline you give to the realistic drawing!
It sorta reminds me of Alphonso Mucha!
Love to see more work from you! =D

Proportions are a bit off and the ear looks too big to me now. Practice, practice, practice. #2 pencil on scrap paper.

Tried experimenting with the lighting on this one changing the direction and lightening up the piece. HB pencil on a sketch pad.

PixelPlay,
I love how solid and complete the first two heads feel in particular ~ there's a wonderful sculptural quality about them that I think is just great to see. :)
Keep up the good work!
Cheers,
