View Full Version : STL Check
Genesis 01-15-2003, 05:08 AM I was just wondering if maya has a STL Check?
I want to use it to check a mesh I am working on for holes etc.

STLCheck in Max isn't usually used for anything related to STL. Modelers use it to find open edges, double faces, sliver polys, and other problems with a mesh that are created during the modeling process.
In Maya, you can clean up some of these problems with Polygons->Cleanup. You can also go to Display->Custom Polygon Display Options and turn on Highlight Border Edges. Then these open edges will appear thicker in the viewport; the thickness of the line is controlled with the Border Width slider on that same panel. Keep in mind that these polygon display options are set per object, and the radio button at the top of that dialog controls which objects get the new settings.
I'm not sure offhand how to detect overlapping faces. A solution was mentioned on these boards a few days ago (I think) but I forgot what it was. Anyone know how to do this?
Hope this helps,
