Hi all,

In Control Panel - File Types, I have set the MAT extension to open with 3ds max 5.

I'm trying to complete a tutorial that calls for importing a material library "quickstart.mat" into the Material Editor. When I try to import this file, the mouseover tells me that quickstart.mat is a Microsoft Access Table Shortcut, that seems to do absolutely nothing when I open it in 3ds.

Help?!

Mine show up as access table shortcuts, but it doesn’t affect them when opening in max.

Are you opening them from inside the material editor? You should be.

you should just import thorugh the material editor as the previous poster says

if oyu really really wan tot open the file from a folder [in windows], just right click it, select Open With > Choose Program... > then select max from the next dialog box. note the little check box at the bottom that says 'Always use this program to open these files'.

that will permanently [until you do this xact procedure again] remap the file to open with max.

ps. dont do this if you use microsoft access. im guessing you dont.
