Hi everyone, :)
Tomorrow is the last day for the official Workshop! If you have not already collected your works and posted them to a Personal Anatomy Thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=341167), please do so, as this will help me tremendously in terms of collecting work for showcasing.
Tremendous efforts here by everyone! Please note that this Workshop will remain open indefinitely for posting. Some of you may even wish to attempt all 100 heads. Please feel free to do so!
Remember that you are encouraged to post your work here as well as to your own Personal Anatomy / Sketchbook Thread simultaneously.
Thank you to all the participants here!
Cheers, :)

So here they are my last 6, all 50 present and correct. WOW glad that is over.
Gone for a traditional oil study look with these, keeping them loose and quite impasto. This has been a great thread with a fantastic array of talent. I would like to thank everyone for their comments and support......see you in OFDW.

My huge thanks to everyone who participated here! This thread has been a tremendous experience, and I have greatly enjoyed seeing all of the new people who have come on board as well as the Anatomy Forum veterans who help to make this forum great! :)
It's also been a pleasure to see the awesome mix of 2D and 3D Traditional and Digital Art. Everyone here has been inspiring and inspired, and for that I really thank you all!
Please note that everyone has until midnight tonight (GMT -5) to post their pieces to make the official cutoff date for this Workshop.
All are welcome to continue to post to this thread indefinitely; however, only work which has been posted by midnight tonight (GMT -5) will be included in the official wrap up thread which will include some work from ALL posters.
Additionally there will be a SPOTLIGHT thread highlighting the BEST work from this Workshop but I cannot guarantee that it will be up before August 4th, due to the fact that I will be attending SIGGRAPH and it will take a great deal of time to collect the best work from this thread. I will post a notification here of when the SPOTLIGHT thread has been posted!
Massive thanks to everyone who spent their time on this Workshop and who worked very hard and inspired us all! An extra big thanks to those who took time to comment on others' work and to lend this Workshop a highly convivial atmosphere.
For those of you who wish to be notified of new Tutorials and Workshops on the Anatomy Forum, please subscribe here:
Notification of New Open Figure Drawing Workshops / + TUTORIALS - SUBSCRIBE HERE! (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=379951)
I look forward to seeing all of you in future Workshops! :bounce:

Cheers! :)

sorrry, when i had my pics scanned, they came back with some of the drawing cropped off, so some of the titles/ artists of the original came out chopped off

Thanks everybody for all the C&C, thanks for inspiring me so much and congratulations on the gorgeous work !
I thought I would never be able to get into this, specially at a delicate moment with my 3D short, but I had the fortune to post some heads, receive and do some C&C, I felt home around. learnt a lot, and thank you once more to all of you, to look at every one's work taught me a lot too, and I wish to be with you guys for the next series when they happen.
I will try hard to post my last heads to finish the 50, got my clay done for modeling and even did a ´base model´ in clay to make it faster.
It's been really crazy here, I'm doing so much animation these days that I can't stay awake a minute more when in home. But I kept an eye sometimes during the day to look at your heads ;) :applause:
I promised to comment everyone and I will, well... 183 will take some time *lol* but I will, all deserve comments, at least some wows and :bounce: :D
Will go sleep now, best wishes to all of you, thanks, thank you and congratulations once more Rebecca ! have a nice Siggraph :D maybe next year I'll be there too. I'm missing USA badly now.

Fl3wk, the Official Workshop has ended, but anyone is free to post here so long as they wish. :) I recommend for those completely new to this thread to give themselves a 1 month limit from the time that they start. Others here may wish to do all 100 heads, with or without a time limit. I recommend a time limit as it gives you the motivation to push out a lot of work at once.
Cheers,

hellsgfx I'd like to invite you to start your own anatomy thread, makes it easier to follow your progress :) Rebeccak has put a link in this thread here somewhere on how to do this.
About your head study: you did a great job creating depth. Due to the head being positioned under an angle, you changed the angle for the face features a bit. you can prevent this by drawing a cross first (centre of head and eyebrow line)
Hope this helps

Hey guys! I recently found this thread and have been trying to catch up on it--102 pages isn't very fast reading. Great work everyone! Rebecca, I am not sure if it is my place to comment, but I feel like (at least in many of your early pieces), the smudge tool has been used everywhere... Perhaps that is your particular style but I feel like excessive smudging makes any painting loose some of it's character and a lot of unspecific enjoyable qualities.
Gettreg, I love your works. I love how your strokes are sloppy and neat simultaneously (pretend that made sense) and your perfect sense of value.
I'm excited about the next workshop as well, especially since I cannot paint torsos and pretty much just do heads. I regret not having joined this workshop earlier--it would have (and probably will) aid me tremendously.
This is my first (unfortunately, quite possible last) head. Cristofano Allori--Judith with the head of Holofernes.
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/3183/mastercopyallorijudithhalofernesheadcm7.jpgApproximately 3 hours (1.5 hours painting, 1.5 hours constant minor tweaking), photoshop. I still don't think I got it quite right though. Focuse was on the face so I'm sorry everything else is so crappy.

Hey everybody,
I wasn't going to post here without a picture to offer, but thought I'd pop in anyway for a quick reply.
@ hellsgfx, ha-dou-ken, and Jho: Thanks for the kind words and encouragement! It means a lot coming from such talented artists as yourselves. And, BTW, thanks for not mentioning the crappy job I did on the marble block under the head :D (haha). Keep up the great work, guys.....
@ gerttreg: Thanks for the compliment- very nice work yourself. I am actually new to digital painting and have also struggled with the same question. The painting I posted here was done in Photoshop CS2- it's not just for photos :). I have used both Painter and PaintShop Pro. I think they are excellent programs (I especially love Painter). However, I am currently teaching myself to use Photoshop because it appears to be more versitile and because it seems to be somewhat of an 'industry standard' among digital artists from many different disciplines. I hate to recomend Photoshop just because 'everybody else uses it,' but I think that it's a good idea to at least be familiar with it for that reason. That being said, though, there are many many fine artists here who use only Painter, and many who use Painter and Photoshop together. I think most people here would say that it comes down to personal preference and what tools you feel will best get the job done. Hope this helps???

aidanwilson,
Hi there, the image descriptions are in post #1, you can simply use the search feature of WGA to find the images that you wish to use - sorry as I know it's a bit confusing. :) It's very simple though, you simply find the thumbnail you like and find it's associated description, then search the WGA database using the artist's name (author) and title of the work. Hope this helps! :)

There are still a few things I could tidy up but I'm not too unhappy with it. I've done a few more but other than the ones I posted when this first kicked off they're really only at a quick sketch stage.
I'm gonna try to get some more done as this is great practice.

Can I still post this here?
I've been away/busy for a few months now and am trying to catch up and get back to anatomy studies. I'll try and do a few more heads though I can stick them in my own anatomy thread if you don't want me pulling this thread up anymore.

Ravmaster,
I'd much rather see you do traditional work instead of risking carpal tunnel syndrome by working with a mouse. :) If you can, see if you can get a small 4 x 6 Wacom tablet - if not though, do you have a scanner? Doing traditional work is actually encouraged. :)

Oh dear... I apologize in advance because this is going to be a massive post... Realized that as I changed my image hosting last year after the workshop, none of my heads are in this thread... so reposting the lot here...
If it's a problem Rebeccak - please delete them all as you'll find them in my sketchbook at the beginning. and sorry again, I just forgot about it and ran out of time.

Well, after drawing some manga, another portrait and trying to bone up on proportions through figure drawing, I thought I'd give this a try and see how it turns out. Consider this my first head copy of (hopefully) many more to come.

Completion time: 2.5 hours
No idea whether I'll be able to complete 50 in a month though, since I'm probably gonna be busy preparing for my exams soon. Well, we'll see. I tend to do a lot of crazy stuff when I was supposed to be studying haha.
It's really great to see people still posting here!
Nice one Flewk for 20min you are pretty close on it's proportions. My only crit would be the head seems hollow due to the unpainted area's here and there.

Great work!
I'm gonna give you the same advice Rebecca gave me at the time of the workshop (that's nearly a year ago omg): Try a few quick ones, then do a longer one like this one you posted, repeat these steps if possible.

^Thanks for the advice. You mean sorta like do a few quick sketches of the same head first to get a feel for it, then only proceed to do the proper illustration?
I actually meant doing some quick studies, spending from 1 to 15min per head but yeah, you could do what you suggest just as well... drawing the same head a couple of times.
It's how I work when I do a commissioned drawing. with each sketch you see flaws in the previous one so it gets better and better...
I was wondering... do you have a sketchbook at the forum?
You could create one and post all your studies there -and here too if you like.
There are a lot of nice people with a lot more experience than me who are always interested in helping others :)

Hey there everyone, I'm new around here and to digital art in general (though I have a limited experience in traditional mediums). I got my tablet a few weeks ago and had some time to play around with, so here's my first head:
