Chibi Chan – Boot Urchin serving as cobbler to Tom Bombadil
“Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow:
Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.”
In some distant age in his far travels gathering flowers for lady Goldberry, Tom Bombadil ran into a small creature with a head that appeared on the outside as a sea urchin, yet the creature had a round jolly face like a tiny human, and the creature’s upper body looked like that of a fat little butcher. The lower body seemed to lack any form of legs or feet, for where legs and feet should be, the creature simply had a lumpy base much like a walking spud. Little is known of this creature’s past or origins.
After a long day of tramping across the lands seeking out lilies, Tom’s boots would become disheveled, sometimes messy and sometimes just plain worn out in the soles. Chibi Chan, being too small to work in most trades of big people yet separated from his own homelands, took up leatherworking and was all too happy to find employment under Tom. Chibi, with his small hands and closer than normal view of Tom’s boots, was ideally suited to clean the leather and repair broken stitches and leaks. He would work through the night so that in the morning, Tom’s boots would be in top form and ready to carry him once again.
Besides maintaining his employment, Tom greatly enjoyed singing to Chibi at the end of the day of his travels and share any tales Chibi Chan might have cooked up during the day. Tom, being the carefree type that he is, never paid any notice to the irony that his own cobbler had no feet and was unable to walk in any conventional sense.

Couple quick sketches. Something more polished on the way...

Started roughing things out. Have to mess with his proportions before I move on. Getting the edges and things in place anyhow. Still purdy darn mushy looking.

Oh man, that is SUCH a cool concept story! I really loved Tom Bombadil in the books (was such a shame that they left him out of the films), and it's really awesome to see a character connected to him!
The sketch is great, and you model is coming along really well too! :D:D:D
Good luck for the rest of the challenge! I'll be keeping an eye on your thread to see how things develop ;)
Such a great concept story Mucky :D The concept sketch really fits the description too. Your model is coming along nicely, but I feel like the proportions from the sketch were better suited for this guy. The big chubby head really brought out the jollyness of him. :)
Yeha! :D :D I would love see him animated...:bounce:

Gonna try to spend a little time every day on him.
Thanks for the words of encouragement.
visualboo-thank you sir! I've been missing modeling lately.
cerreto-thank you also. Flashback alert!! Flashback alert!! Looking forward to the release of Bay myself. ;)
ambient-whisper-thanks for the comments as always!
zued-thank you. I am going to spend a good deal of time once he's modeled working on his face states for lip-synch so maybe I'll do a little test. He shouldn't take long to model so I think it's do-able.
Rye-thanks. Glad you like him. I often start out with things stretched as it aids me in laying down my edgeloop foundation. Pretty quick to move things around and build up detail from there.
Leigh-Thank you as well! I'm having loads of fun with it.
I like Tom Bombadil a lot too. Yet another example of the range and depth of Tolkein's world.

Absolutely Nasty!! There's something odd about the rolls of fat on the chin - looks like they might be a bit more loose, the reast is uhh Discusting! Like to see the reference used on his chest (or dig some up!) ;)

Still gotta finish his pant/sack. I'm not too happy with his urchin head thing. Thinking of giving him a he-bra as well so you don't have to spectate those nips. o_O

Ah well, here's the entry state. I'll probably finish him this weekend.
Mr. Oz-Thanks bunches! Have a round for me this fine evening.
AW-Hehe, yeah, I think he needs to be called Chubby Chan. I erased his stomach a couple times so he underwent a little nip and tuck, implant, and then tucked again. Maybe they are inflatable. :D

I like the character design.
His feet look a little strange, I'm wondering how he would walk.
But then again that foreces the imagination
Keep it up.
