Best way to do them?

Well there is the default shader, which does well at dividing up the shades. But it has two main drawbacks. 1. You can't vary the line thickness and 2. it only does outlines, you can't do curves inside a single object (like if your looking at a face, the underside of the chin won't have a black line).

There was a tutorial, don't know if it was naam or not, that utilized soft shadows from a light that was in the same place as the camera to kind of outline things like that. Kaiskai, who's around here and can explain this better, used bhodinut's fresnel shader to get cuves to show up. But I've found that it's hard to keep the line thinckness constant, and for some reason I get a few jagged edges if the light is too hard.

Oh for an illustrate! plug in for c4d...

MDME... your toon tutorial isn't easy to get to. I see the toon shaded model you have... but it's not a link, nor are any of the text links around it.

How do I get naams toon tutorial?

it's in the tips section, that front page is just news stuff, not many links as such.

i'd suggest the use of sla-nukei. it create a nice diffusion. the finer the noise the finer the cel-spreading!

love to see a plugin with various options for this but unfortunately c4d doesn't seem to have one....:thumbsdow

flingster and crew,

Ah but something cool does exist! Shades of Cell my friend!

I'm trying to contact the author Kai Pedersen who had a lots of posts/threads on the now defunct bhodiNUT forum that had his Shades of Cell shaders on it.

The set of shaders covers a range of Cell and Toon like settings. They are truly awesome.

I have his set, but the read me files are not clear about distribution of his work. So I'm doing the right thing by asking him first. I will post with his blessing or provide a link where you can get them.

yeah....i know about soc very nice to....complements to kai.
unfortunately he has pulled it from open disribution because he was getting s**t of people who shall we say were ungrateful for his efforts.....he will email you a copy if you obviously ask nicely....and let him know what you are gonna use it for....

(correct me if i'm wrong kai)
anyway....thats about it really.
he is also on this forum....somewhere.....where are you kai!!!!

SOC was still available on bhodinut, but will no longer be, so I will get it up soon

I'm right here, and I'll get a link for SOC up soon, gotta talk to a certain someone first. I can't seem to find the original pack, so if medula or someone else has all the files still to gether I'd appreciate if they could send me a copy at www.kaiskai@vfs.com

As for the second set, I decided to realease themone by one on the new deepshade site when it got up,but ith that still notfinished, I'm looking at packaging them again, its been a while, I've cooled down, just got a lot of annoying emails at that time, and one quite offensive and really pointless one that sent me off the top.

SOC 1.0 will be available soon like in a few days, SOC 2.0 will take a while as I'm busy on a lot of little projects. and challenges ;) SOc takes a lot of tweaking too.

Oh and the other package of presets I started way back and will try to finish, will be (yet to be named) which is a set of shaders designed to emulate the 3D shaders in the C4D materials as best as possible. this gives you slightly more control oer the shaders especially in terms of alphas when mixing two 3D shaders on one object.and it seems I lost the cheen one which was on the bhodinut site, will look for it in my folders, but I'm really disorganised in that stuff, its been a while, and my naming system is somewhat flawed ;)

Anyone got a name suggestion for those?

Kaiskai,

What was the Cheen one that you lost? Can you describe it? Chances are, i archived it.

Funny, I grabbed everything I could from SLA forum last week when I saw post from Darf that struck a funny note with me. :scream:

Thankyou two both for your files, the extra images help we should have a site up in a day or so, just getting some things sorted and more images (I'm doing some on some amazing models. none of them mine of course)

If I remember right there wasn't any programming to it was there? It was just multple layers of shaders with just the right adjustments? I suppose if one day if push comes to shove and a real plug in hasn't been released it could be redone...

your right, I can just pop them out, the thing is there was instuctions and many samples and such. They are jsut presets though, nothing amazingly special but handy for those that don't think in abstract ways

flingster
01-16-2003, 09:47 PM
yeah but as there was a serious lack of plugin in this area...they are a godsend believe me....you can play with the presets...adapting line width etc...hatching...and for the beginner...and non abstract thinkers among us...they are very useful starting points and only add to the cell rendering you can already do. I do agree with you though no programming...i'd love to see a commercial product for cel rendering made available to c4d users...but until then you can do a hell of alot with clever lighting and texturing and ideas from soc believe me.

of course c4d has its options to cel render....
