Softimage always had good music on their reels!
They were giving out cd's of there demo music I think when......XSI1.0 came out. I still listen to it every now and then. :)

and again it seems that they chose the crappiest compression method they could find....
why not a nice divx, mpg or even mov ???

I'am with stimpy....and just to add to that. I really don't see what the hype is about the soundtrack.

i was actually quite disappointed with the music i might add... for once it reminded me too much of their previous showreel with the minimal blips and bloops and on the other hand the sound was too clean and sterile for me...
considering the reel seems to have again 15 cuts a second (which doesnt really give you ANY chance to see whats happening....) the music seems much to tame.
my 2 euro cents..

The music sounded like it came from a stock 'electronic music for dummies' cd to me. Was it me or is that reel about 99% games? Were they always that targeted towards the video game industry? I seem to remember a lot more footage from commercials and movies in the older reels.

yes the soundtrack sounded to me just like standard stock "royalty free" library music... used to have tons of the stuff, but just hated listening to bad rehashes of other peoples good songs, stock music is only cool if you're into teh 80's in a big way.:p
the compression on the video was terrible, for most of it i was getting such a poor frame rate and so much artifacting that it was impossible to tell what was going on, except i could tell most of it was games stuff.
not the kind of reel to make me want to go out and buy the product.

it does sound like stock music... if it wasnt for the voice spelling out "softimage"
and re: games... ´for me it didnt seem to focus on games at all.. weird.

If you liked Softimage music style an advice for you: the latest Rinôçerôse cd "Music Kills Me", the Softimage vid music seemed copied from that cd to me.

I thought it was alright. They definitely overused the Speak n' Spell dubbing though. Once was sort of cool, but 10 times is a little overboard. The music wasn't too bad, but definitely lacks the punch and epic feel that a long showreel like this needs.
FBMachine, I don't see how the reel is comprised of %99 game content, quite the other way around I'd say.
BTW, HapZungLam, what piece was yours in the reel?
