alrighty..

isn't bitmap fit supposed to match the UVW to the exact size of the original image file?

heres the scenario; i got the front and side reference images of a room. the images line up perfectly in photoshop (ie. the ceiling and floor lines match up on the front and side). each one is assigned to a different plane with UVW maps. now, i do a bitmap fit on both UVWs but the front one is now noticably bigger than the side.

ive gone back to photoshop and rechecked it -sure enough, they still line up perfectly, saved it out, hit reload in max but max still seems to output the front image much larger.

whats the deal?

(thanks for your time)

Just try this:

Look at your image aspect ratios in photoshop. Write them down.

Make a plane with the same aspect ration...whatever units you want. So an image in photoshop is 1024X768

Make an plane in Max that is 1024X768 width and length.

Then scale them to the proper size.

It's just a work around, but it's easy.

Hope that helps

Bitmap fit only scales it to be the same aspect ratio as the bitmap, not necessairly the same scale...

ahhh...

thanks guys. -saved me lots of frusteration today. thats why this forum is so great.

Bitmap fit only scales it to be the same aspect ratio as the bitmap, not necessairly the same scale

just curious but, why is that? doesnt it make more sense and be more practical if 'bitmap fit' fit the uvw to the bitmap?

thanks again

Well Im not sure what was causing your distortion in the first place, it might have been using two different sizes for your reference planes or something.
I believe the important thing is that the two planes have the same dimensions so that the bitmap fit scales its UVW gizmo the same way when you do it. I always make the front plane, then shift-rotate it 90 degrees to make a copy and its all good (if the pictures have the same dimensions too, its always something, isnt it?)
