View Full Version : Gods/Demons - Character - bibi5000
bibi5000 03-12-2002, 04:33 PM I don't know, if I get away with this, but here's a quick sketch of my entry.
It's the "Demon Of Silly Behaviour" or the "God Of Making A Jerk Of Yourself". You probably know that one, too.
Well, actually, it's a self portrait (still like that one better  ), and I should add something creepy to him to meet the restrictions, but I like him that way (standing very sad in a dark corner of the room, trying to avoid the eyes of embarassed people). He should look like a human, because this God/Demon always looks like yourself...
So, do you like it?

Here come the feet, taadaaaah!
http://home.arcor.de/bibi5000/bilda/body_prev2.jpg
I wonder this is too "human" for this challenge and what to to about it. I mean, this model is meant to look really strange when I'm done, but better safe than sorry...
I mean, I would feel totally silly. Aaah. I love these smilies!

Great, your modeling is great!
What a cool body with so few polys!
Of course he might look too much human, but why could'nt he be a god?:D
hi bibi
very humoristic idea!
is it a self-portrait or frank zappa?!
bodymodelling looks great (wusste gar nich dass du so fit bist!)
:p

He will look like a REALLY UGLY demon, as soon, as he gets my head. har. Just kidding. Hopefully.
with so few polys!
Currently, I'm reading a book of Paul Steed (the id/Quake lowpoly- modeling-god, the person who makes my day since Quake I :buttrock: ), the name is "Modeling a Character in 3ds Max". which is very helpful to me (never did a whole character before).
Another chance to post a smily: :D <-- he's so sweet
@fex no, it's someone I know named Hoerlein.

Hehehehehehehe - this is very cool! I just knew this was going to be a popular challenge for everyone because of the theme, and animators generally love modelling dark evil twisted things (myself included ;)), so it's quite refreshing to see something funny!! Good luck for the rest of the model - looking cool so far :)
Well. Wen I think about one god, I remind of some supernatural being capable of supernatural stuff. But we forget that there are so diferent cultures, and some of them in their traddition a good laught may be the work of (or a pray for) one of their gods.
Great stuff.
Keep'em coming.

03-13-2002, 03:48 PM
@Leigh: Thank you very much! This was my first Idea, when I read the new themes for the challenge. Maybe I am very talented at making a jerk out of myself ;) So this is the demon who drives me from one mess into another.
@Slot: Thank you, too! I've been to a photobooth today and am preparing to begin the struggle for the head... ngggrrrrrrh
I'm sending a prayer to the angel of polygon modeling :D
@fex: Yes, there will be more folds (don't know the correct word either) around the bending areas of the arms and legs. The fabric of the suit will remain grey with a matte highlight, the textured version will have stains of wine and beer.
Thanks, you keep me going :wavey:

That looks great man......Everyone loves a demon with a since of humor!;)
maybe you already mentioned this and I just didnt see it yet, but how did you do the suit?
bibi5000
03-14-2002, 05:34 AM
@Titan: It's one mesh.
Ok, here's how I did the suit:
1. Started with surface tools
2. Added a cylinder (the leg) and modified it with edit mesh, then booleaned with the body (after collapsing the body to mesh)
3. Worked on the body with edit mesh.
4. Detached some body parts, worked them over and reattached them (legs, arms, hands), added some (could somebody tell me the correct word for "falten" [wrinkles?]) to the belly area.
5. The result without smoothing. Divided the suit and the skin with a chamfered edge and bevel (see big picture in foreground; see the bug also :annoyed: ; I hate the mesh tools of max, ngrrrh). Applied Multi/Subobject Texture for skin/suit division.
6. The smoothed result with mesh smooth level 1.
I hope this answers your question. If not, please feel free to ask again.

bibi, the model is coming along nicely:p Really like your drawing too. I hope you can capture the fun/playfulness in your 3d model as well.

Thatz really fast modeling... do you use any modeling plugins for max or do you just use the orginal package?
bibi5000
03-14-2002, 09:06 PM
I use Max 4.2 without any modeling plugins. But not today. I'm sooooo tired :scream:

Sweet:bounce:
And finally do the "(standing very sad in a dark corner of the room, trying to avoid the eyes of embarassed people)" I don't know how to fit that into the contest rules but there is always a way :lightbulb , I think is a great idea
Thanks a lot for the horn polish
bibi5000
03-15-2002, 02:02 PM
lol
It will fit the rules. I said, it's a god, didn't I? ;)
I'm working on the head know. Pffffffft. Needs ears and LOTS OF DETAIL. What do you think
@yahll: You're welcome. It's a pity I have to work on my stuff now
http://home.arcor.de/bibi5000/bilda/head_prev.jpg
hi fab
proportions look good:cool:
eyepart and mouth needs more detail but i think you do that
anyway.. hair will be quit tricky if you want to rebuild your own
:)
bibi5000
03-15-2002, 06:02 PM
yes. the hair will be sacry stuff :)
here's an update with head attached and some sort of hat (still pushing points around with that one) and, oh, do you think it's allowed to texture the eyes?
Now, what do you think?

No, you're not perfect : you are German ... hum ... ok, I'm French and I live near Germany ... 15 - 15 :D
I like your model, but you should add more details, more toys, decoration on his clothe ...

Added a short Animation Test (http://home.arcor.de/bibi5000/bilda/bipwalk2.avi) (129k) also, for my personal fun.
hi fab
model looks very cool in monochrom, i think bottle should look more like good old august ( munich beer..):p
walk animation looks natural for this kind of charakter ( silly walking ;) ) only crits are missing or tiny eyelids and
maybe use only one shadow for keylight in your animation:lightbulb
bibi5000
03-19-2002, 06:31 AM
@fex: This happens to people, if they drink Augustiner (http://www.bilfish.com/life_project/Euro99/dan99.B.Augustiner.tongue.jpg). The walk is a cs .bip file. But thank you :D. I'll mind the shadow. And the eyelid. Really.
He is so my god.
Where can i worchip him?
so_hi
03-19-2002, 07:09 AM
Is the Animation on your god taken from mocap data?
Because if it isn't that's a beautiful thing.
Looks great none the less. :applause:
Sangotten
03-19-2002, 04:04 PM
...that walking part is very cool! looks really real....
I think he could use a bit more...don't know what, hmmm let me think...He needs more beer so he can act more stupid!
Anyway I think he's really cool!
bibi5000
03-19-2002, 09:31 PM
@Thank you very much sangotten
Added bottles of good old Augustiner (the beer that makes me act stupid from time to time ;), mmmmh god beer), as you and fex suggested...
@sohi: This is a standard CS bip file. I haven't got the time to animate him myself right at the moment
Added morph targets to the face, folds and a hole to the suit.
Did standard lightning, because I'm getting no contrast with GI renderings.
Painted some smoke on the cigarette (couldn't resist :))
Willing to add more stuff, but I don't know what...
Stay tuned

Character looks really good. Nice to see someone doing semi-realistic/realistic human stuff. When you skinned him, did you use physique or skin modifier? Just curious.
Mahlon
WOW bibi this really great stuff!! very nice and silly facial expression i would like to see a drunken smiling:grin:
there is august in the house  !!
maybe he needs something to sit this position doesn't looks really relaxing for him..
a thron build of beers bottles or rubber ducks would be cool:lightbulb
bibi5000
03-20-2002, 01:02 PM
@mahlon: This is physique. I think it gives more control for the mesh.
bibi5000
04-05-2002, 03:15 AM
I have to finish at this stage, because I have no time anymore.
Thank you for your support.
sincerly yours :wavey:
